J & T windmills

Post by Ian Mc »

I have been offered a discounted price on a limited edition (..of 150) on a J&T Windmills Platinum Gresham mechanical hand wound watch, like the one here:
http://www.allthewatches.co.uk/designer ... watch.html
I know the pictures are sh1t, but I cant find anything better.
These have an Eta 2824 (I think) movement.

I have looked through the forum and found a number of comments on this company and products, but it's all quite old, so, I was wondering if any of you experts would care to pass an updated opinion?

Cheers

Ian

I had the hots for one of theirs back in my early days of acquiring watches. It was called a Throgmorton – silver cased job with a long case clock style face and hands. A bit naff, really. With hindsight. At least, that one was. Bought a Nomos instead. I believe the company is part of Rotary.

I'm intrigued to hear more about the "Handmade English Wound Mechanical Movement". I fear smoke and mirrors.

From the dial design it looks like an old PW movement...

You echo my concerns, the others I looked at yesterday had ETA movements in, or so I was told.

I have asked the Jewellers if they wish to comment!

Pocket Watch. Smaller pocket watch movements can be, and have been adapted for wristwatches. At that case size, however, I would not think it likely.

The pocket watch movement theory is interesting, but the position of the sub-dial and the crown would indicate a normal Savonette sub-second arrangement with the whole thing rotated 30° anticlockwise.

It's a nice looking watch, sure enough, and the platinum case is an attraction if you like it. But once you get over £3000 you are getting into the entry-level watches for some pretty serious brands. This brand does not seem to be attracting much WIS attention. If they had a handmade English manual wind movement, they certainly would..but it wouldn't be at that price!

Caveat Emptor.

I agree with AVO on everything he has said . The company was registered by Rotary in 2006 . The watches are designed in London , they use Swiss movements , ETA , Peseux and Unitas normally , and they use Chinese watch cases . The watches are engraved , assembled and finished in a facility in the UK . The ETA movements will probably be the 2801 hand wind in some models .

Thanks for the feedback guys, all pretty much as I suspected.
So, I dont think I will be going for one, despite the offer at £2600. There are better around for that price.

For less than that, Ian, you get this. Well, I did. No-brainer!
