Single hander options?

Post by Trevini »

I'm getting an itch for a single hander. A Mesitersinger no3 more or less hits the spot, but the questions are what are they like to live with and what viable alternatives are there up to a similar budget?

There are lots of single handlers out there. I have a Meistersinger No1, easy to read the time to within a minute. More dressy than casual.

There is also Kemmner to name a few. Prices range hugely so if you just fancy sratching the itch get something inexpensive first!

I have a black dial automatik Karl Falk. I lusted for a meister singer paragraph for a while but couldn't justify the price. I still really like meister singer, however I don't think I have need for two single hand watches. My Karl Falk is much less dressy then a meister singer, more like a pilot watch. It is made by Laco, a German brand with a lot of history. I love everything about the watch but it does get uncomfortable on my wrist from time to time but it still gets a lot of wrist time. 43mm distinct laco case (specifically the lugs), eta 2824, display back, comes with strap, bracelet, and a small watch tool kit, I believe it has 18mm lug width. I really enjoy reading the time on a one hand watch, I find it simpler and faster. In fact the whole watch is as simplistic as it gets. also Karl Falk was a great company to deal with, superb customer service.

I love those one hander & found they can tell time and a bit different (part of reasons I also like Jump hour which in fact is a lot easier to tell the time accurately.)

Started with 37mm Meistersinger No.1. A very dressy watch but the crème dial certainly made is a romantic weekend city break holiday watch.

I did find it a bit difficult to ready instantly, hence moving onto Kemmner 1Z which is a lot more affordable then Meistersinger's offering. Much easier to read but a rather chunky watch due to long lug to lug. However, Unites 6498 with display back is a joy to look at sometimes.

However, they are a bit dressy & I found one hander is best suited for weekend. Hence, picking up the best Einzeiger IMO. Schauer's Phantom and Gold.

I apologize for my ignorance, but how does the single handed movement work?

Does the hand point to the hour and approximate minute by quarters?

Just remove the second hand and minute hand from a normal watch. That's it. The hour hand is also longer than normal. Never had much appeal for me.

Some single hand watches may have 24 hour dials instead of 12 hour ones, that is quite 'slow'.

Thanks. I need to add one of these to my collection.

What are you looking so far and why? Curious as to what you think you will buy.

A few more here. I like the look of the Epos.

Looks like a good site for other unusual watches as well.
