Swiss Made

Post by craigski »

How 'Swiss' are CWL watches?

I have been trying to find some info and found this old link on Reuters:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/ ... KS20130304
"Thanks to current weak Swiss laws, watches produced almost entirely in China can be sold legally under the "Swiss Made" label," Jean-Daniel Pasche, chairman of the Swiss watch federation (FH), said in a telephone interview.
I have read the thread on forum with regard to other manufacturers:

Anyone 'in the know' with regard to CWL watches? I assume some CWL models are more 'Swiss' than others?

Good recent article on 'Swiss Made' here\: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/swiss-made-2/

My understanding is that CW cases are made in China but the movements are bought in 100% Swiss (ETA or Sellita) and the watches are assembled in Switzerland - I may be wrong on this however.

That was what I believed as well - no doubt Kip will be able to provide confirmation.

Early C5 Malvern cases were made in China as are C11 cases. The rest are, I think, made in Switzerland.

So, is it fair to say a C60 model is more Swiss than a C11?

Are the newer models less Swiss? What about LE models?

Truthfully couldn't care less.

All CWL cases are made in the far east, as are most major brands.

I do know that the movements are Swiss but I don't know what to make about the cases as when I rang CW to ask about the C60 they confirmed that they had just got a shipment in from Japan of all places.
