The best I've had is Ron Zacapa Centenario. A bit pricey, though.

The only rum I have in the house.

Angostura 1824 their Single Barrel Reserve is quite good to and not expensive.

I should say that may be a tad biased living in Trinidad.
That's the one, good value and smoother than the 1919.

It's available duty free at most UK airports which makes it fantastic value for the quality (though still not a cheap rum).

From the suggestions above it sounds like El Dorado may be my next purchase :D

The 1919 is very strongly vanilla flavoured - fine, as long as you like vanilla!

I am also a fan of flor de Cana from Nicaragua
But my top two are Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva from Venezuela and Inner Circle Red from Australia. My intro to the Venezuelan tipple was via a Chinese neighbour here in UK, she had great taste!

Cadenhead offer a very good line in rum, well worth exploring. Their Cask Strength line can go up to an eye-watering 70-odd per cent, and the Green Label range has some very nice sipping rums indeed.

In addition, their shop (Chiltern Street, Marylebone) has a barrel of a hugely tasty dark rum from which they will happily fill a bottle on demand. Not cheap (£40, if memory is not too hazy) but well worth it, IMHO.

Mount Gay...oldest Rum distillery in the world and " the rum that invented rums". Also the only rums in my house.

Mount Gay Eclipse - for mixed drinks
Mount Gay Extra Old - for sipping on ice

then there is Mount Gay Old Cask

ONLY for sipping and special occasions. Crazy good rum.

I have tasted El Dorado and it would be my second choice if there was a worldwide Mount Gay shortage !

Mount Gay stopped producing rum last September due to the collapse of a deal to sell the company. They're still operating, I assume selling what's been aging, but I'm not sure what's going to happen going forward. The news reports were a little sketchy.
