What is acceptable accuracy ?

Post by SimonB »

My C61 gains 16seconds a day - about 2 mins a week - is that about right for a standard automatic CW ?

It is not bad but I suspect others may report better performance from their SW200s. Is it on rotation or regular wear? How is it kept overnight etc.?

Funny enough I was thinking about accuracy and found this site very interesting, it may help

Difficult one as I think this is within the bounds of acceptable accuracy for a non-COSC watch. It is worth checking your manual to see what it says about anticipated accuracy. Perhaps try a different position at night as this can affect the accuracy - a quick search on google will help!

It is within the CW spec but I personally would not find that acceptable and would return it. If you speak to them nicely they will adjust to within 5 secs/day. If accuracy means something to you then you will get much more pleasure from the piece if it is performing at its best

My C40 gains about 7 min per month... Almonst equivalent to SimonB C61 It's not critical, but a little disturbing to have a quite expensive automatic Swiss watch less accurate than the Casio of my colleague @ 30€ To my oppinion no CWL should pass quality check with more than 10 sec/day (with a target of less than 5)

I order a servicing of my C40, I would appreciate a regulation within the 5 sec/day when it will come back :?

It's my impression that unless a particular mechanical watch is COSC, its accuracy is a something of a crapshoot within relatively broad limits. Having said that, my C8 Pilot MKII is consistently 2 seconds fast every 24 hours. It has been that way since about a week after I purchased it over a year ago. Have to say that it's considerably less of a hassle than another "daily driver" of mine, a Hamilton Seaview Day/Date that loses about 10 seconds per day. Always easier to adjust a watch running slightly fast.
