Steinhart Marine Timer

Post by spacebrother »

Was just browsing the Steinhart website and came across this rather odd offering:

I'd like to get your guys' thoughts/opinions on this. I like the way they have "inverted" the traditional handwinding watch, and placed the seconds hand at 12 o'clock instead of the regular 6 o'clock position.

Looking at some other opinions it's a bit of a marmite watch (like the Apollon). Does anyone have one that would like to chime in with their experiences/gripes with this?

I haven't got one, and neither am I a potential owner.

Sorry, but I couldn't get on with the pocket-watch style winder.

Shame, because the rest of the design is nice enough.
So I wish I was James Bond, just for the day.

This model has its design based on the timer used on submarines .It was used to stop the time the torpedoes needed to reach there target .this model also has a great unitas movement.
but for me it is not a watch I would purchase , like Richard I don't like the crown , and the hands for me just don't look right .like you say its a marmite watch you either love it or you don't .

Overall I like the watch style itself, but the crown is to big for me to consider. I could adjust to the hands. Although a bit odd looking, they can be accepted considering the basis for the design.

It's one of those watches which I look at & think "not bad & different" then move on to the next.

Really nice design of dial, hands etc.

Then they go and stick that bloomin great carbuncle on the side and ruin it.

Haven't they just put the movement in up side down and the crown on the wrong side

I like a lot about it but the one thing I do not like about it is the long crown and ring. Wearing on the left wrist will have that thing digging into my wrist makng it unwearable. So, whilst I can profess to having looked at it on the website on more than a few occasions I can wholeheartedly say I will never seek to purchase one.
