Captain Phillips
There's a few Film threads on here, so clearly a few Film afficianodos on the forum. I rarely get to go to the Cinema to watch an Adult (wrong terminology ) Film! But yesterday I had an afternoon free, and the kids were being picked up from School by the Grandparents, and we had a Film voucher, so my Wife and I went on a date to the local Vue to watch Captain Phillips.
I'm not usually a fan of long films, and at 2 and a quarter hours, I was a bit worried that I might fall asleep during the afternoon showing However, no chance of that! What a fantastic Film! I love Tom Hanks and he is on the whole excellent in this film. However his co actors (Somalian Pirates) were superb, to the extent that I've convinced myself they had to have used real hardcore Pirates rather than actors.
The Film really ramps up the tension, slowly but surely until the fantastic finale!
Without spoiling anything for those who want to go see it, there is a short period in the film where Tom Hanks takes acting to a completely different level to anything I've witnessed before. He had me blubbering away (and I'm hard as paperclips!)
FWIW, I recommend

Thanks for the recommendation. I am a Tom Hanks fan and was wondering about this one.

Re: Captain Phillips
Hanks is one a few really versatile actors today. I watched Road to Perdition the other night: the complete opposite to Forrest Gump but he is excellent in both. Thanks for the recommendation.

I gave mine to my Brother-in-Law. I don't think he's sold it on to Tom Hanks!

Agreed here in the supporting cast and Tom Hanks. And the thing is, for me, I thought 'Gravity' was perhaps a better film.MGH wrote:However his co actors (Somalian Pirates) were superb, to the extent that I've convinced myself they had to have used real hardcore Pirates rather than actors.

The trailer for Gravity looks stunning. I'm looking forward to it coming out.binnserelli wrote:Agreed here in the supporting cast and Tom Hanks.
