Makaira Pro on Brady Sailcloth Strap

Post by Jje4th »

I recently got a C11 Makaira Pro. It's a great watch, but I generally dislike rubber straps so I ordered a Brady Straps Sailcloth strap in Orange from to go with the accent on the watch. Here's what it looks like:

As you can see, the orange stitching in the strap is much darker than on the watch (in person it slightly less red than in the picture). This strap also wears really thin on this watch (~3.5mm vs the 5-6mm of the rubber) and a bit loose for a small wrist. I'm wearing it on the last hole on my 6 3/4" wrist and it slides around a little.

That said, there are some positives about the strap. The construction and texturing are really nice and the leather is comfortable. There are built-in, quick release spring bars and best of all it tapers a little so can fit the Christopher Ward buckle.

Overall, I'm probably not going to wear the strap with this watch, but I'm going to keep it for my Orient Ray (Blue). The white stitching may have been a better choice.

I'm going to keep looking for a thicker alternate strap (any suggestions? no NATO). In the meantime, the rubber strap is actually growing on me.

I like the look of that strap on the watch. Do you still have to wrestle the buckle undone or has it eased over the standard strap. I am also curious to know why you would want a thicker strap for the Makaira, looks, comfort or just personal preference.

Toshi and SteveOStraps spring to mind as doing thick leather straps.

I echo Ian's recommendation - both great strapmakers and nice guys.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

Remus, the leather strap is much easier to undo vs the rubber one. And I've been lucky with the rubber one, I can just pull the end tight and the buckle tongue will pop right out. Not sure if it stresses the spring bar though...

As for strap thickness, the watch is so substantially built I feel like it warrants a substantial strap to go with it. That's just my personal preference.
