Deciphering codes

Post by Tyke »

Not sure where this thread should be placed on the forum, so I'll leave it to the mods to relocate as necessary.

For anyone new to CWL or unsure of watch colours when purchasing, the only sure fire way of determining that you are getting what you want is to follow the watch codes. These can be confusing so I've attempted to cover the basics of the CWL coding system. The codes generally come in two parts, the first is the general watch model, followed by the individual coding covering case colours, face colours & straps. The current codes are as follows;

Models;
Mens Range -C#
Womens Range - W#, S# (square) & R# (round)
Any watches prefixed with D indicates a Diamond version
Any watches prefixed with NN indicates a Nearly New sales item.

Design Codes -
DEC = Deco
ROM = Roman
COSC = COSC certified Chronometer
CHR = Chronograph
CHR.Ward = Logo error
TRI = Trident
MAK = Makaira
MSL = Mean Sea Level
GMT = Greenwich Mean Time
GP = Grand Prix Series
T = Titanium
Si = Silicon
PVD - Physical Vapour Deposition coating
IPK - Polished Black PVD ?
Auto = Automatic
Mk1 = Mark 1
Mk2 = Mark 2
A = Aviator
S = Silver
K = Black
B = Blue
Y = Yellow
O = Orange
V = Green / (or Vintage lume)
G = Gold
W = White (or Cream)
C = Charcoal (or Grey)
T = Tan
R = Red
P = Violet (or Pink)
L = Lilac (or Purple)
Colour + R = Alligator strap option

So for an example;
C9-CHR-SBBR is a C9 Chrono, silver case, blue face, blue strap (alligator)

If I've missed anything, made any mistakes or anyone can fill in the ? let me know & I'll update the list :thumbup:

You can get most of the codes plus a lot more from the spreadsheet in the archives section.

In which case, go there instead :thumbup: Didn't realise I was re-inventing the wheel.
Just did this in response to someone who thought they'd bought a blue faced Makaira.

That would have been yours truly with regards to the Makaira. I appreciate this as well as the link to the archives. I'm sure anyone else new to the CW world would too. Thanks.
