Help-Clock wanted

Post by Lamps »

Evening All,

I'm after a clock, no really interested in antique stuff unless its cheep, only thing I'm looking for is a sweep second hand. I have a newly papered chimney breast to fill,(now know as "flue" you got to love the EU) I'm just after something that looks good, so if its made out of plastic and I have to put a battery in it every month, thats fine. But It must have a sweep second hand, if someone can point out antique that doesnt cost a lot, brilliant.

Cheers, scooter! :D

Lamps, I haven't seen many "classy vintage" clocks with seconds hands, most of them tend to be just hour / minute, and of course the problem with "cheap crap" by which I assume quartz  , is that you will get a 1-second clunker.
There's plenty of reasonalby priced old stuff on the bay.
I know what I'd pick!

Hi Lamppo,

I know this might not be for you, but i am fairly sure that the seiko clocks have a sweeping second hand.

F Hinds in the high street have a few.

This seiko has a sweeping second hand.

What kind of size are we looking at here?

I would search on eBay for Dealer Clocks then - some of them are quite nifty ;)

I like this one especially;

You know, I would probably buy a CWL wall-clock if it looked like the C5. Wonder how hard it would be to make one?

I think the winding will be the hard bit. My Gran had a clock on the sideboard. You used to have to open the glass front and there were a couple of holes (I think) on the face. You would put the key into the hole and wind it up.

I was looking at skeleton clocks but they are a bit expensive. I assume they are automatic although when I looked at pedulum clocks they were battery operated. :(

The price of a cheap 7" Android tablet is cheaper than most of the clocks I have looked at. All you need is a clock app with a sweeping second hand.

Not sure is any of them are sweep second hands, the last one is described as mute, so I'm guessing that one may be. Will email them at some point to find out.

How about this? A watch/clock hybrid. Big wrist/small chimney breast required?

Perhaps AVO could assist in pinning it to the wall for you?
