Funny story..

Post by leoo »

I was in a meeting with my manager yesterday, and he talking. "blah blah blah.." and his hand is near is face and hes wearing his dress shirt and his watch is just barely showing... and as hes talking to me.. im waiting for it to pop out fully so i can see what brand it is.. and when he paused talking.. i said.. "what kind of watch is that" out of no where.

And the look he gave me this look. :megaeek: like i had 3 heads. and said a seiko. and proceeded to finish his story. I couldn't hold it any longer. i had to know.

He's the senior vp of operations and he has a seiko.

Seiko are popular and solid. I remember years ago that although I had a pretty good job and paying well a watch was just something to tell the time. So as long as it looked reasonable and was not too expensive that was what I wore until it broke. I had other things that I wanted to spend my money on.

Hey, my business card also says Senior VP, and I also wear a Seiko (sometimes). Don't knock it. :)

I'm terrible for checking out people's watches these days. My work seems to be overrun with Tag and Rolex models of various descriptions, none of which really get me worked up. One of our directors has a very nice Breitling Navitimer he only wears to dinners and similar events, but my boss really takes the biscuit - he's never been a watch fanatic but chooses to wear the gold IWC Portuguese he got from the owner for 25 years service on a daily basis. All £16,000 of it.

That's the irony of course, we'll happily mock someone for being "higher up the food chain" but having only an "ordinary watch. Yet if they do wear something half way decent, or worse still something we covet ourselves, we get the hump!

Poor bosses and managers - it's a lose, lose for them.

Luckily or unluckily for me, I work in an office where half don't wear a watch and use their mobile phone to tell the time, the other half don't really care about watches unless it needs a battery change :silent:

My colleagues are generally a dull lot. My boss wears something something quite safe, attractive and conservative on a bracelet - Seiko or Tissot at a guess. Mostly I see unremarkable high street wear, though a couple have decent taste - two chaps with a Mondaine and a nice Skagen...they were surprised I recognised them!
Two of the ladies have VERY nice watches, a small blue-faced Rolex and a Constellation (Manhattan?)
Some of the older kids are tuned in to what I'm wearing...naturally, they LOVE the Orange Monster and Yellow Mako, and they think I'm nuts for selling the "big blue one" (C8) and the "funky green stopwatch" (DBR1)
