A collection made for XTriple?

Post by Dancematt »

To celebrate the Speedmaster’s lengthy service history, as well as its 40th anniversary, Omega released just forty of a special edition box set in 1997 containing all twenty-two mission-patch Speedmasters. For every one of the NASA’s missions where the Speedmaster was worn, the dial was emblazoned at nine o’clock with the mission patch, and so too are the watches in this collection. The set also includes a replica of the very first Speedmaster, commonly known as the ‘broadarrow’ due to its distinctively shaped hands

Yes, but most of the fun of collecting comes from the seeking out, even missing out and then finally nabbing the one you're after. Then you get to do it all over again. :)

I do like that collection. Not so sure of the price - £125K  Still, I suppose I could save up for it, only take me another three lifetimes :?

If memory serves... :-k ....IWC had a Platinum Vintage Set that went for about $250,000 USD a couple years ago.

A good one for those rich geeks among us.

Did they, like these Omegas, all look the same too?

Why would you want a box of watches that basically look the same? :?

The iwc set comprised of a vintage edition of each of their range i.e portuguese, aquatimer, da Vinci, pilot, portofino and ingenieur. They did the set in platinum, Rose gold and stainless steel. The watches were all quite different.

Not a fan boy or anything ........

Well that's 100% better than the Omegas then.

Psst, show us your blue dial one more time Nathan.

SO nice Nathan. I had to pull out my IWC price list for a reality check on why I don't own one!
The Omega set is nice, but, as Scooter says, just a little too repetitive. Certainly only for the hard-core Speedmaster collector. I'd really be quite happy with just one Speedy. Ok, two would be nice, a 'proper' acrylic version, and a sapphire sandwich.

In 10 years CW will be offering cased sets of military C4s, motoring club C11s and a re-issued set of C70s
