Would you send a watch out unpaid for?

Post by xtriple »

Just had a message on TZ from a chap asking if I'll send the Citizen to him on approval and if it's okay he'll pay me. He wants this as I've never sold anything on there before and being a newbie is a "deal breaker" for him.

Would you send the watch on this basis?

I tend to read peoples posts as it gives you a certain idea about them.

Has the guy got loads of posts and any references of him in H & V? If so and the watch isn't expensive, I think I would play ball with him.

'Buy the buyer'. What is his reputation? Has done lots of transactions and do you feel you can trust him? Most importantly, can you afford to lose the watch if he does a runner? It's a gamble (albeit one with decent odds), so you have to decide your risk tolerance. It's a relatively low priced item. If he's an active member he's not very likely to steal a low-cost watch.

No. I would not do this. Ask for a large deposit, say 100% of the value. :D

Xtriple, the two watches you are selling would sell easily on the bay imo. And, I reckon you'd easily reach your asking prices. TZ (and here) is never going to give you the best platform for quartz watches, due to our inbuilt watch snobbery.

Ask yourself this: why should I trust someone who quite clearly doesn't trust me? If your being a "newbie" is a deal-breaker for him, then his obvious scepticism should be a deal-breaker for you.

I can understand people being cautious of newbies and dealing with people that they have no idea who they are or what they are like.....that said, the answer to your question is no....it works the same way for you as him. Why should you have to send your watch of when you know nothing of the other bloke?
However...pm me with the member and i might know him.
If you can read this you are too close to your computer screen....

I agree 100% with this. Both the Tissot and Citizen are terrific watches and they will sell on ebay. The chap on TZ might be a decent chap and I'm sure he is, but why take the chance?

Not putting them on eBay, simple as that. I've heard so many horror stories of people not receiving the watch (so they say) when they have and ending up with the watch AND their money back. Bollox to that, I'll keep them in preference to the 'bay. Don't mind buying from there as there so much, you take the risk etc.

The buyer is "Ryan 1984" but I'm going with the consenus here and giving it a miss. The watches are cheap enough as they are, I'm not going to take a rik on losing it all together. I'd rather give them away to someone I know.

Well if Tony (learningtofly) and 5 others think that he is a good guy, I would have no hesitation in dealing with him on his terms.

Do you want your watch sold or not, if avoiding Ebay?
