Watch Accuracy

Post by sibex »

Just thought I'd mention how impressed I am with the regulation in my C5 auto.

I've now had it one week and its not been off my wrist and in that time, without adjustment, it has only lost 5 seconds!

I think that's pretty impressive.

That was it really :D

That's pretty awesome actually! My Speedy loses 4 seconds a day and (baring my beloved quartz) that is the most accurate watch I've got.

So now we've all got to ring you up to set our watches by in the future?

Terrible.....just terrible! What good is a watch if it cannot be accurate!

Right! :) If that holds up over time that's nothing short of stellar performance for an auto - is it not?

Maybe there should be some sort of accuracy competition, where members could test their watches against each other

Let's see...
We've had the CW Auto challenge, the multi-section vintage challenge, the DIY quartz challenge...what's left?

Actually, sort of on this topic, I never really wear a watch more than a day at a time (well, new ones might get up to three days as a treat, but they are quickly moved onto standard rations in the form of rotation once every few weeks!).
But... I recently loaned my C5A (MkI) to a friend* and they have worn it for 3 weeks. I set it when I gave it to them myself, and they haven't changed it at all (it's a woman and she doesn't even know how to unscrew the crown  - no offence asqwerth, et al.). Imagine my surprise when I looked at it today and noted that it was exactly 5.5 seconds fast. In three weeks. That's pretty impressive!

*Kip, help me. I need meds. I let someone else wear one of my watches for more than a quick trial at a GTG. :(

Report for special adjustment treatments immediately or be assigned to cleaning the moat! :laserschwert:

It may speed up just a bit when it breaks-in and just may be dead-on perfect. Actually, that's pretty darn good for an entire week. My auto are usually 30 seconds to a minute fast in one full week.

I have just checked the accuracy of my C5 MkII which I set against the GMT clock on Tuesday morning. I have been wearing the watch all week. Having just checked the same I notice the watch is running - 2 seconds. This doesn't surprise me at all. My C5 and C60 are both very accurate and as demonstrated here this degree of accuracy is not uncommon. It does beg the question: why pay for COSC certification when a correctly regulated decent quality movement will run within COSC tolerances?
