Steinhart Marine-Chronograph Blue

Post by redd »

http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/MARIN ... E,428.html

I just saw this on the Steinhart newsletter and its a cheaper version of a limited edition they did a couple of years back - one of my favourite ever watches.

I could very easilly have pressed the buy button, until I checked the movement....

"Basic ETA 2824-2 Swiss Made, automatic with Modul from Dubois Dépraz DD 2030..Jewels : 49 Jewels"

I get the idea and am aware that even the Rolex's of this world buy in modules to add to their base movements. Even so I would like to ask the views of real WIS's here before committing - and I 'really' want to press the buy button.

Not sure what you problem is? If you like it buy it. I am constantly amazed as people ponder the worth of one Swiss movement over another.

From http://www.zeno-watch.ch/en/html/body_z ... ments.html
Mechanical Chrongraph movement with Swiss lever escapement: Indication of hours, minutes, seconds and date (at 1200), stoppwatch (60sec, 30min), decorated bridges, unbreakable Nivarox mainspring, Nivaflex hairspring, Glucydur balance, personalized oscillation weight, heavy metal ball bearing rotor, Incabloc shock-absorber, fine adjustment device, power-reserve -40 hours (Based on ETA 2824-2)

The same movement has been used on Omega Dynamic Chronograph and some Panerais. http://www.paneristi.com/reference/sort ... index.html

Sounds OK to me.

See here for more info on Dubois Depraz - they are indeed a fine manufacturer of movements.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

Think the only worries would be the potential expensive service cost for the DD module? Other than that I see nothing wrong with the movement. Tbh I always struggle to understand why it is not built with a 2894, would the 2824 with dd module cost significantly lesser?

There is no way I would spend €810 on offset pushers and a bezel the width of East Sussex. So there.

Adding these two things together give me minor concerns and I really wish they had released this with their usual 7750 movement - if they had I'd already have placed an order. I think Steinhart are making a concious effort to differentiate this from the more expensive special editions. Different movement, 4mm narrower, non-sandwich/single colour dial and black markers on the bezel being the major changes.

Still think its gorgeous...

I like and I don't like chronos - if that makes sense. I think it looks very good in the blue and grey dial options. looking forward to the pictures Redd.

The DD / ETA is the same movement combo as the auto [Tag] Heuer 2000 chrono crossover chrono and the Audemars Piguet from the early 80's - no shame there at all and it looks fab...
