Orient 'Mako' Diver

Post by Tor Billon »

I'm sure there's been plenty said about this great diver from Orient. Just got this black one after reading alot about them.
I'm really impressed with it.
Solid, but comfortable, practical and tough, yet dressy too.

Anywhere here are a few pics, showing some detail.

Where is the pusher at 2 for?
It's an automatic diver isn't it?

Great pictures Andy! Glad you like the bracelet as much as I do. Many complain about it, but I think it is better than many more expensive ones.

The pusher at 2 is for setting the day. A unique arrangement for this in-house movement. Gives it a bit of an HEV lokk without it being fake either.

Pusher at 2 on Orients is for Day change

That looks nice - thinking of getting the yellow one.

Apart from the dodgy crest, I think this is a better looker than a C60. Can't comment quality wise though, I'll leave that to others.

Think I agree with that Tyke - this is a great looking watch with an in house movement at an incredibly reasonable price. Why haven't I got one yet!?!?!?

Nice pictures of a lovely watch

It certainly does look very nice.

Maybe I'll try one in the near future ;)

Excellent pictures make the watch a big temptation. I think I need one to complement my SKX009...:)

Many thanks, I can really recommend these. They obviously have a good reputation. Some places I've read that the quality doesn't quite match Seiko for the similar price bracket, but personally I think the quality is brillaint. really solid steel, a nice brushed look in the right places, and really well polishd in other areas. The crown turn feels fine too. I can't find fault or weekness. I have the Seiko Monster, which has more heft, and a better bezel turn, and crystal, but I prefer the classic style of this, and it's easy to find to buy at near £100.

I still think CW is the ultimate quality / price ratio watch, but I think these Orients are up there with Seiko and Citizen, which is no bad thing.
I quite like the crest logo, even if it does remind me of a pack of cigarettes :D

Enjoyed this watch alot when i owned one, case is made of some very strong stuff and the whole thing was almost perfect for the price- would recommend it to anyone

Newer Mako Ray works out a few design quirks (Bezel numbers mainly) but loses a bit of its originality:

People have been crying out for a Orient Star premium version for years, will never happen though :?

Great BUY!
I miss all the great things that may never be.

Does look nice (all of them) but I'm put right off them by that bloody awful thing I had. Strange how a fake piece of crud should bias me so!
