robinbarke wrote:Nice story - reminds me of my Timex. When it stopped I took it into a jewellers requesting repair. The old watchmaker took one look at it and threw it into the bin."How much did you pay for it," he said. When I told him he said "I'll knock that off the price of a new Oris"! We did the deal and that was the start of it...!

Did you tell him it cost you £500 after he threw it?

I think you remember your Timex watch through rose tinted glases, I owned several of these all through the sixties and early seventies, they were made in Scotland in those days and were definately through away. I was very happy to bin mine when I got my first Seiko quartz in 1975. :D
No more Quartz (except when I cannot resist).

And we were all so happy with our quartz digitals that we forgot all about mechanicals until a more mature time of life 30 years down the line...well I did, anyway! :(

:) :) Nice story.
The first watch I remember was my manual wind Timex. I never quite understood why the radio news wasn't exactly on the hour until I realise that everyone else set their watches by the beeps on the wireless... and that, perhaps, just perhaps, wristwatches just weren't that accurate.

Good story, fun to read.

My dad grew up wearing Timex mechanicals, now he has a CW. I have two Timex right now including this mechanical:

My other is a Timex Expedition that is 14 years old. When I first got it, I took it snorkeling and rock diving before I knew that 30 meter watches weren't supposed to get wet. About a year ago it went through the laundry by accident and still keeps great time. No service ever, just battery changes. And Timex Indiglo is some nice technology. It is brighter than any lume, tritium tubes, or even radium dials.

And my son has this one with the running lizard complication:
