My new find, another impulse, Kentex (pic heavy)
Shopping in the afternoon and walked into an AD shop of "Kentex", For those who's unfamiliar with the brand, it is a Japanese manufacturer which started it's own private label in 1997 after years of OEM/ODM experience since 1989. I have noticed the name for a good while, the collection is impressive but never really rock my boat partly due to the local AD emphasis on Quartz models. I half-heartdly bumped into the shop today and came out a much much happier man.
Here comes my catch of the day, the Kentex Skyman Pilot
Case and Crown: 43mm(w) 12mm(H), 316L Stainless Steel with PVD rose gold coating, onion crown, 10Bar WR
Crystal: Flat sapphire crystal with AR coating, it's not the best AR there is but does it job.
Dial, hands and numbering: Metallic brown/ chocolate dial, 3D structured numbering which adds a bit of depth to the some what simple dial, super lum dial index and hands, and the red-tipped seconds hand is my favorite design feature.
Movement: Its a Sii (Seiko) NH35 movement, a relatively new model, 24 Jewels automatic and hand-wind with hacking second and date, quick date adjust, beat rate at 216000/hr and accuracy stated at -20~+35 seconds/day with 41Hrs+ power reserve. After bit of wiki, seems to be on par with Seiko's 6R15 which is Prospex grade.
Of course the non-decorated movement is pretty disappointing and I would prefer a solid caseback with decent engraving. Particularly annoying knowing the manufacturer is capable for decoration such as this:
The attention to details is pretty impressive too, the PVD rose gold coated buckle for example:
Some wrist shots, though at 43mm this is certainly not one of the ridiculously large pilot watches
The Skyman pilot series comes in 4 different models, the one I picked up is a "Limited Edition" of 188 pieces and I am liking the number #68 of mine, here's the rest of the line-up
Kentex is certainly an interesting brand, its one of the few makers in Japan which imports Swiss Mov't (ETAs) also. You may wish to check out their website: http://www.kentexwatch.com/e/ptxwebstor ... t_home.asp
Really like this watch, didn't think I would acquire another pilot but I have proofed myself wrong, again
Oh, nearly forgot about the price, a modest GBP175
Hope you enjoy the read and I personally think its a nice maker which deserves more attention.

Great price for a rose gold auto. Although it looks like a cross between an aviator and a dress watch. Nice looking strap as well.

Tbh it doesn't really float my boat, but i can see the attraction.....for £175 you seem to get a reasonable package.
Anyway,it would be boring if everybody liked the same thing.
Enjoy!

Like the look of the watch, and a bargain at the price, not sure about the name though, does'nt sound very Japanese.
No more Quartz (except when I cannot resist).

Re: My new find, another impulse, Kentex (pic heavy)
Not sure if I would get one but is still a good looking watch. As kip says nice colour combination. And I agree a solid case back would have been better or a decorated movement. But for the price very good watch
Re: My new find, another impulse, Kentex (pic heavy)
not my cuppa tea (the mission impossible, go faster font on the lettering is not my thing) but looks like a superb value and very well made watch. If you're enjoying it, then well done on a great bargain

Nice looking watch, Aifo. I also like the red tip second hand, my hamilton has one too, and it really helps make the watch. But the lume on yours is very nice, especially that on the second hand, most watches I've looked at for that price haven't got that. Impressive.

Thank you all for the attention! I presume Kentex is as strange a brand in EU/US as CWL in Asia.
Never knew it as the mission impossible go faster font, learnt something new!shrink wrote:the mission impossible, go faster font
