Case backs, question re. Enicars?

Post by Amor Vincit Omnia »

I've decided to get hold of some tools next weekend and take the backs off a few watches to get pics of the movements, note movement and serial numbers etc. Most of mine are obvious; some have the notches that indicate a screw-on back, others don't, so are snap-on.
However, I'm not sure about these 2 Enicars...are the indentations for show, or for use with some kind of tool? Info from anyone who has had experience with these would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :D

Case backs, question re. Enicars?

They look screw-in, which would also be likely as they claim water resistance. To be honest the "pop" in/out type is more common on plainer backs.

I'd also suggest trying a rolled-up ball of masking tape or similar. I have found it just as good in most cases as a tool or ball (I have both!).

It is a screw off caseback so the ball and/or tape may work if it is not to tight.

If not, you may need to visit a jeweler who has a proper opener with adapters similar to mine. This opener does have the adapters to fit that type caseback.

You could always ask lamppo_the_GasFitter if he has a small pipe wrench! Just be sure to protect the caseback!

Thank you, gentlemen. I'll try the ball / tape idea for these first.

What? You're not going to take a plumbers wrench to the back of your enicar? Where's your spirit of adventure man?

Yes,as Kip said, they are "screw in" casebacks. I use the rubber ball as shown earlier, but a good tip is to wash itwith washing up liquid just before as it makes it extra grippy :D

If the back is on too tight, then a jewellers is your best bet!!
