A Challenge for watch hunters

Post by leebman »

I still fancy a unitas 6498/7 watch but big sizes are out for me whats the smallest watch with this movement you can find, as the movement measures 36.6mm across is there a sub 40mm watch?

Don't think so, but if you want an interesting site for information and photos/watches/history, try
http://www.unitas.netfirms.com Some cases look smaller than others, but this movement is too large for a smaller case. This site demonstrates the main difference between the 6497 and 6498, the second hand position... UB

I recall seeing one at 42mm. That's not too big I'm sure. It's stuffed thought! A small case like a 41 or 42 make it ALL MOVEMENT! I'll have to look for it again. I think one of the Zeppelin's had this movement and was only 42mm.

What's the cheapest 6498/7 anyones seen regardless of size that way I get the movement and if the case is huge I can try it out over a good long time before coughing the £500 for the stowa any ideas? :)

Try the Epos site at this address, £350 advertised - http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/epos.htm
or the Hamilton that Daz posted in 'handwounds' earlier this year - £330... UB

You could get an Invicta with a Unitas movement for about US$600. But its a huge watch, the 1959 Russian Diver is 52mm. That isn't my wrist by the way.

You could also try the Altanus Unitas Flieger or the Oscar Unitas Fleiger. They are roughly US$200-250 each.

Daz,
I really like the first one but don't see it on the Debaufre website. Is it an old photo?

Thanks Daz thats definately the right price range not sure on those crowns though like the nav b its a classic 47mm gulp. I found the ollech and wajs ocean master and xxl tonight not bad possibilities at £160 :)
The glycine incursore 200m is very tempting but heavy on the budget getting too close to that stowa. The incursore is 46mm I made a cut out its big!! especially on my sub 7inch wrist.

Thanks Daz... I went to the Debaufre website. I didn't know you could still get Steinhart in Europe.
