Universal Geneve "Wilhelmine"

Post by Zinaida »

Arrived today, Dutch military watch, known as "Wilhelmine", due to crowned "W" on the dial. A batch was ordered in 1939, less than one year prior to nazi Germany invading Netherlands:

I'm afraid the crown is less than original.

Nice looking watch. What size is it and are you going to get it restored or leave it as is?

Only cleaning, slight polishing, particularly the "glass", will try starting it up, if this will prove possible without sacrifying originality. Oh, at 30 mm dia without crown it is rather small by today's standards.

Interesting history. Does it run?

Not at the moment. I will give it a very delicate clean-up and hope it will.
