I don't think that you can judge Daniel Craig yet…
Casino Royale was awesome, but Quantum of Solace was the movie equivalent of someone vomiting in your eyes for an hour and 20.

Dalton suffered from having to deliver Roger Moore's script in Living Daylights and then had to put up with zero budget for the desperate attempt that was License to Kill – had the potential to be the best Bond, but kinda got shafted.

Comparing Connery and Moore is largely pointless. Each belong in different decade and reflect the changes of these times accordingly.

Brosnan started off well but turned into Moore by the end, even down to the dodgy 'stunt double' moments.

Connery is closest to the spirit of Fleming's Bond, simple as.

to me Bond has to be...suave, sophisticated (the martini issue not withstanding! ), witty, cultured, ruthless, coldblooded and able to kill in a heartbeat without blinking an eye...Mr Craig would more likely beat you to death with a breeze-block and get sweaty and bloodstained in doing so. I agree that he has been a bit stifled by the quality of the films, 'Quantum' being unbearable and 'Casino' almost ruined by the badly fumbled last 30 minutes.
Oh , and as for the stunt double issue, I happen to know DC's claims to do most of his own stunts are, how shall we say...exaggerated !

I think the Bond films jumped the shark at the precise moment in The Man With The Golden Gun when Bond jumps his car across the river, spinning it in mid-air. Not only do they bring back the "comedy" Sheriff from Live And Let Die, but they add a slide whistle sound effect to the whole stunt before jumping straight back into John Barry's chase music.

After that, for me the Bond films effectively stopped in 1977 with Spy Who Loved Me; they then turned into Carry On Spying for the rest of Roger Moore's tenure. They picked up slightly with Dalton and then plunged even deeper into the cack with Brosnan; to call him wooden is an insult to trees. He makes Keanu Reeves look charismatic! On top of that he can't fire a gun without pouting. He should have called it a day after Remington Steel, and even that stretched his acting ability to breaking point.

However I do think they're back on track with Daniel Craig; he's an actor first then a movie star, and it shows in his performance. I think they made the right choice in moving away from the dafter gadgets, which had become a deus ex machina for getting Bond out of another scrape. I also think that we're more mature as an audience and can appreciate Bond as a fantasy without it being just a vacuous action movie; I like the way they show how his lifestyle and his actions affect him personally. Fleming's Bond was super hero but he was also human and I think Craig really puts that across.

amazing how opinions diverge, I quite like Mr Brosnan as an actor...you go too far comparing him to Keanau though, even wood isn't more wooden than Keanau!!
Please, I beseech you , say that you thought 'Quantum' was an absolute POS!!

As for Lazenby, I actually saw 'On her majesty's secret service' for the very first time just a few weeks ago....what a car crash of a film!! I think people give him the benefit of the doubt due to his brief tenure and also because we wasn't actually the wrost thing in the film!!

I enjoyed Quantum of Solace. Sorry. It had it's faults, too many stunts and rapid editing for me, and it didn't move the Quantum story line forward enough. I also think that Mathieu Amalric was under used and his off-screen death was a wasted opportunity; is he really dead though?

I think it was a mistake to kill off Mathis partly because he was Bond's confessor and that could have have been explored over a few movies, but also because Giancarlo Giannini is a great actor and any movie with him in is worth seeing.

After Brosnan finished and the series was re-booted with Craig, Quentin Tarantino approached EON and suggested an idea for a Bond film he would like to direct; it took place in London in one day with Bond racing against the clock to avert some plot / disaster. That's a Bond film I would like to see.

Sadly it seems that none of us will be seeing Bond for a while due to the financial crisis at MGM. Quantum looks like being the last Bond for some time, and it's odds on that it will be Craig's last given his previous statements about not staying in the role past a certain age. :(

Quantum of Solace? Good? Really?

Erm, isn't it about Bond saving the world from the evil of a man who wants to own a significant proportion of Bolivia's main water utilities company?

Please tell me in the next one he's gonna save Britain from EDF... :aengstlich:

Yes. Really. Honestly. Truthfully. Really. Really.

Doesn't matter how many times I'm asked the answer's gonna be "Yes. Really".

:(
So he basically wants to do 24 with a different Jack :?

Bond was best when it was Sean Connery...close second was Timothy Dalton who i think is underated.
Bond was campest with Roger Moore
Bond was most wooden with Pierce Brosnan
Bond was suavest with David Niven
Bond was at his 'prettiest' in OHMSS (Lazenby was the highest paid model in the World at the time...he ws not an actor...all becoming clear? 8) )
Bond is at his 'rawest' with Daniel Craig although i thought Casino Royale was,on the whole OK,but Quantum was in the lower ranking of Bond films.
If you can read this you are too close to your computer screen....
