Re: Yet another new Speedmaster...
The silver snoopy award has a long history with NASA growing from the Mercury and Gemini missions. The Omega connection is that it was presented by the Apollo 13 astronauts to Omega after their return to earth. The award was given in 1970 hence the 50th anniversary connection.

I was offered this a couple of times by my Omega AD and turned it down. Now I may well have to go back and ask to be put on the waiting list.

If I had the cash lying around, I'd have one for sure.

I suspect the waiting lists are quite long so there may be time to sell some internal organs

Re: Yet another new Speedmaster...
I think it is, on the whole, pretty cool.
The colour scheme works. The movement is good. The rear complication is novel. The design (generally) hangs together and it is an attractive piece. Not an LE, which has been a recent complaint and means us mere mortals should have a chance to get one.
On the downside, price is far, far too high (but, given non-LE status, I would expect reduced price in due course in the grey market).
Also, I get the Snoopy reference and relevance, but it just doesn't mean anything to me. Given the Snoopy on the back, I'd have been a bit more restrained and kept it off the dial. Maybe it resonates more with the US market.
Still, I'm debating whether I can justify another Speedy......

^^^ Not sure about the US. I think it resonates with Apollophiles globally. Having said that, I shall not be throwing my hat in the ring. The standard Moonwatch was good enough for Mr Swigert, and it’s good enough for me.

Re: Yet another new Speedmaster...
I think that is a pretty cool looking Speedy, great colourway.
I expect demand will be high despite the price. I wonder what impact the fact it is not an LE will have on the availability and price in the long run.

Re: Yet another new Speedmaster...
Nice watch and I would love to have one but there's no way I could justify having over £8k on my wrist so there's little point buying it only for it to be owned but locked away.
The standard Speedy has increased in cost sufficiently recently to make that close to un-affordable for many and I think that Omega have pitched this at too high a price or too high a spec for a non-LE.

They have nailed it with the snoopy thing.
Somehow it transgresses the usual “association” crap. Recent Seiko “streetfighter” or the nick names we so tediously use for the Rolexes.
The Snoopy thing has legs. . And heritage, and class. And . . . . Well . . . . All of our attentions. Every time.
I like it.

Order placed, deposit paid. It won’t be delivered until next year but it has my wife’s tick of approval - she loves the colour and even the snoopy connection.gaf1958 wrote:Hmmm.... What can I sell in order to buy one?
The blue panda will be the inverse of my Gemini LE, but I promise not to fit a set of orange hands onto it.

Re: Yet another new Speedmaster...
It's a lovely watch and no mistake. Great change to the standard black and white. I'll need to win the lottery first unfortunately.

It probably helps that you are on first name terms with your local AD.
