If it was me, out of these two it would be the Black Bay.

First comment is the one I go with in this case.

IMO the Black Bay is a better looker than the North Flag, also more versatile WRT straps as well.

Looks like most of you would go for the black bay

Black bay black.. Classic color, big crown, golden hands more vintage look, uncompromisingly classic styling, red triangle over the 12 o’clock position.
This is my 2016 watch personally.

I do not own either but have tried both on a couple of times as part of my on going hunt to find the right watch for my upcoming fiftieth. Firstly, both are really lovely on the wrist, mine is just a a bit under 7 1/2 inch and I did not think the BB was too large at all for a dive watch. The mixture of red, gold and cream works beautifully but I would agree with downer that the black is more of an all rounder if you have a smaller collection. The North Flag surprised me by how impressed I was by it. The yellow details are far more subtle and the 'sharp looking edges' did not appear so on the wrist. This really is a lovely watch. However, I would be a little concerned that the NF could look dated in time so I would go BB.
Enjoy the choosing.

Am I barking up the wrong tree maybe having to much emphasis on the movement

Yes.

To me, the movement details only make sense for high end dress watches at the level of Breguet, JLC, GO, Lange and others. The North Flag movement is not the best decorated or beautiful. Any watch from Stowa will beat it on looks and decoration. However, the extended power reserve is something I would personally love since I don't own a winder. The movement is also supposedly rated to be more accurate.

I think movements are important, and definitely part of the buying decision. However, in this case you are comparing an excellent movement (The 2824 "top") in the Black Bay with the "in-house" extended PR movement in the North Flag. On paper, the newer NF movement wins (top trumps style), but the 2824 is a proven work-horse, in "top" spec it features the best component set and can easily be regulated to high accuracy.

If the same watch was available with either movement, I would choose the in-house one, but given that's not the case I think the style of the watch is more important than the movement.

I went to see both these watches today and I would choose the north flag. I don't own any watches on a steel bracelet but it just looked great and it is definately on my wish list! The black bay is beautiful too but I just feel the the north flag is more unique and the in-house movement is a big plus (for me anyway).
