This is what is holding me back from snapping up the Colt. It's close though...downer wrote:The Navitimer is a classic design, and it's a classic for good reason - the design has longevity, which means it will still be interesting in 10 years time, and it will never date.

Of course, within reason. If you have set your heart on model x, with strap y and a specific caseback, try to avoid buying something "close" to your ideal. Near enough is rarely good enough, and you will probably regret it.
7. The thrill really is in the hunt.
Taking time to decide what you want, searching for the right example, the best deal etc, is all part of the satisfaction. Rushing into purchases can often prove unsatisfactory.

You may well be right about the speedy but both became icons due to the 3,6,9 layout.atnits wrote:The point about the sub-dial layout is a good one. I'm not sure it's as important as the Speedmaster pro, though. The original Navitimer didn't land on the moon, and I think the essence of the watch remains whether it's a 7750 layout or not. So I think I'd be as happy with the 6,9,12 subdials as the 3,6,9.

What about the sinn 903? Can save you a lot of money and an almost exact replica of the original Navitimer as Sinn bought the rights from Breitling back when the brand was in trouble or some such:

Those rules win it for the Navitimer! What are the other rules, though? I bet one or two of them will favour the Colt GMT!downer wrote:Downer's rules wrote:6. Accept no substitutes.

Is anyone else irritated by the date window on the Navitimer and the Sinn? I'm seeing a lot of watches with it there recently, and I don't like it

Re: Which Breitling?
Not so much, it lines up well within the markers and its a busy dial, anywhere else would make it look worse or busier? It'sAliveJim wrote:Is anyone else irritated by the date window on the Navitimer and the Sinn? I'm seeing a lot of watches with it there recently, and I don't like it

Love the colt but the nav is the one you want. Accept no substitutes. Just a case of tracking down your preferred modle.

I agree, it's a bit of an irritant. But for me, it's not a deal-breaker.It'sAliveJim wrote:Is anyone else irritated by the date window on the Navitimer and the Sinn? I'm seeing a lot of watches with it there recently, and I don't like it
