Views on this watch please?

Post by m500dpp »

Since an IWC spitfire is well out of reach I am looking at this:
Image

Its an Ollech and Wajs with ETA 2824, retail is about £130 in UK and it seems good value. A manual version with 2801 movement and no date is £95

They also do a big pilots watch

but with my puny wrist the 46mm case is just too big!!!

All opinions welcome!!!

Anyone know where I could `get a union crown fitted to this watch to finish it off?

Edit, just found a better one still, bit more expensive but.....at 39mm its`a perfect size and look at that union crown!!!

If I had to buy any of them I'd buy #2, though, like Daz ,the 12 and crown have me scratching my head.

I prefer the Archimede, and have ordered one recently. I should have it in 2-3 weeks :)

The Archimede is my fave too, may even take over from my desire for a Stowa!
Have - quite a few
Want - not too much

have had the archimede for just over a week now, and am very pleased with it. it seems Mr Ickler does set them up, mine appears to be within 20 seconds over the week which is about as good as it gets, the regulator is moved a couple of notches to the slow side......

Some points

- Date is pointless too small and hardly noticeable (the only negative really, but I can live with it)
- crown is excellent, nice firm fit encourages hand winding
- Lume very bright
- Nicely made and finished, movement is not embelished and writing on the back is a bit crude, but these features do fit in with what was originally a working watch.
- Versus a Stowa? personal preference, I am very happy with mine and would not spend the extra on the Stowa, after all its got the same style/build quality and movement

Now a Stowa marine original is something else!!!

Carman63 I bet you will get it a lot quicker than that mine was just days! Be interested in your opinion of it once it arrives...................

Thanks for the write-up! After I place my order I got an email saying my watch was "in production and woud be ready for shipment in the next 2 weeks." (direct quote from the email). I got the order confirmation on Feb 11, so I figure maybe by the first week of March.

Of course, if it comes sooner I'm alright with that ;)

EDIT: I just received an email stating my watch is on the way. Estimated delivery date is 2/18! :D
