Sweet watch. I am a huge Rolex fan, bought my first year and half ago, after i tried a Sub on and got hooked. That Dsd looks great.

It looks really great on you
I too looked at the "James Cameron" back in November, really different, unfortunately it
didn't wear too well for me....BUT ....Mrs Winnie liked it.
I am sure you will be "chuffed to bits" for many years
CONGRATULATIONS
Dave

great review line for the DSSD!smegwina wrote:(After reading the other thread, I am assuming that this is fine to swim in although there is the risk of being dragged to the bottom!)
i'm guessing you're very tall, because as behemothic (behemothous??) as the watch is it looks really good on your wrist.
enjoy!
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

Man, that is a monster, and way too chunky for my tastes, but you can't go wrong with a Rolex so wear it in good health.

A friend of mine came round a few months ago to listen to some loudspeakers. He was wearing one of these. Superb. Huge, but superb.
He has since flipped it for a rare model of JLC Reverso ...

Re: New Deep Sea arrival (with Piccies)
Okey dokey,
Having worn the DSSD for a few days now, I thought that I should give a quick update.
Despite the supposed size of the beast, she actually wears very well.
The weight is soon adjusted to and the watch is actually very well balanced on the wrist. It would feel slightly more stable if the bracelet did not have such an extreme taper in width, but there would be an associated increase in weight.
Despite the 44mm case size, the DeepSea actually wears quite small. Indeed, she wears very similarly to the 42mm c60 in appearance. In height though, the c60 is much smaller.
Both the 45mm Supermarine S2000 and the 45.5mm Planet Ocean absolutely dwarf the Rolex. The Ringlock system means that the dial in the DSSD is actually the same size as the Submariner, hence the smaller appearance. The difference between the Bremont/Omega and the Rolex is staggering.
The bracelet and glidelock are of a superb design and construction. The bracelet does occasionally squeak though which is a bit odd!
The crownguards initially dug in a bit, but after a day, I do not notice it.
Lume appears reasonable although I would have liked to have a small lumed marker next to the date at 3 (such as on the PO) to balance the nightime effect!
Timekeeping is.... well I have no idea as I never check these things! I have not had to adjust the time though so apparently it is accurate to within at least a minute a day.
Having poo poohed Rolex for so long, for all the wrong reasons, I now delight in the little things, such as the etched logo in the crystal and the fact that the serial number is now longer between the lugs. It is now etched into the rehaut amongst the repeating Rolexes.
Ignoring the sheer volume of writing on the dial (which does not bother me at all) the watch is so simple that it just "works" It takes all the classic design cues from the Submariner and sticks them in a bigger package.
The overall impression is that despite the fairly hefty price tag, she was worth every penny and I would not be at all disappointed if she was my only watch! The sheer quality of the package as a whole is undeniable.
Apologies for the ramble. Thought that I should provide a small update.

It's a barcode Chris, that's printed on one of the vast number of clear stickers that protects the case whilst being handled at the AD.malvern_man wrote:What is the etching? next to the helium valve?

Re: Updated...New Deep Sea arrival (with Piccies)
That is a big beast, that's for sure, but it's a very nice one (made all the more appealing to me by the lack of the signature cyclops over the date). Unfortunately it's one I could never get away with wearing as it is probably (a) too large in diameter for me, but (b) definitely way too thick for me. I'm glad that you've been able to find a suitable Rolex for your wrists though - from your photo, it certainly looks to sit well on your wrists, whereas it would be comically large on mine (a mere 7.25").
Good on you! If I could get away with wearing it I'd be inordinately jealous, as it is I will merely express my admiration for a lovely watch.
