UK Watch makers

Post by Rev »

Does anyone know of a list of UK watch makers anywhere? I'd love to support UK watch making, but so many products are way too expensive. The industry started off in the UK before Switzerland (and, to a lesser extent, Germany) managed to take over.

Can't help with a full list, but there are some great British brands around, eg Pinion and Elliot Brown as well as CW of course that offer superb product at very competitive prices. On the way up to the absolute pinnacle of modern watchmaking, check out Dent and Arnold & Son. The Winter edition of Loupe has an interesting article on this very subject.

Good luck!

^^^ Wow ... I've always assumed that Arnold & Son were a high-end Swiss brand. Thanks for that!

Let's not forget we have our own compiled list of, currently 2055, Watch Brands from around the world.

Should be easy enough to search for the UK ones.

Arnold is Swiss. Launched in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the 1990s. They make some fabulous watches but have little apart from the name in common with the 18th Century English Chronometer maker.

Not forgetting George Daniel’s apprentice himself -Roger W Smith, also featured in an old issue of Loupe. Talking mega money for those pieces though.

Apart from the obvious, I can think of Bremont, Pinion and the Marloe Watch Company.
