Thanks Neil, very good review and one from a forum member that we know, understand his watches, his likes and dislikes, which really does help.

I had a Pelagos for some time and I really liked it, but found it somewhat chunky compared to some other watches, but that’s typical of many Tudors I think, and smaller than the current in house movement version. If Tudor do release the rumoured 39-40mm Pelagos, I’d have to seriously consider buying one. Perhaps to the point of simply ordering one the day it was announced...

The lume is, as mentioned fabulous; better than any watch I’ve owned bar one - the sword handed Seamaster Pro, which just pips it for both initial brightness and for longevity, but the Tudor is not in any way shamed in taking second place to it. It, in turn, beats out all of the Seiko divers I’ve owned, including a monster - a watch often used as a yardstick.

Fabulous watch, if a bit on the large size, but probably still the yardstick to compare all dive style tool watches to.

Tudor Pelagos - a member’s personal review

Post by nbg »

Thanks gents.

Re. The further specific comments:

The weight sized to my wrist is 8g less than a Speedmaster Professional, so fine for the size of watch. The blue would be good for a summer holiday watch. I think I would find it hard to resist if they produced a 39/40mm blue version that wasn’t too deep. I knew the lume was better than my SKX, but hadn’t realised it bettered Gary’s somewhat larger selection of Seiko, both past and present.

It does look to be, other than the small nicks on the inside edge of the lugs blemish free! Whilst I look after my watches, I don’t wrap them in cotton wool, but perhaps have just become attuned to not getting them bashed around. Yes worn in rotation, but for the Pelagos that would include being worn as one of two or three during a couple of weeks away on walking or beach holidays. Plus the more dangerous activity of playing with my children. :)

Contrary to popular belief titanium does seem to be resilient.

However I have been known to wear something to protect the watch, if walking on rock or scree, in case I slip.

A very well written review Neil, Thanks for posting it.
The Pelagos is one of those watches that I've always admired.
Good to see one in long term ownership.

That's a great review Neil. The Pelagos is a watch I've admired but have never handled one, so the detail and photos are great so see the details such as the clasp, HEV etc. I didn't actually know it was titanium either.

One interesting thing to me is that Tudor never seemed to bother using the Rose logo on the Pelagos, going straight for the now current shield logo from the off in 2014, whereas my Black Bay, as did all the ETA BB's, had the rose logo which was updated to the shield when they issued the in house movt BB last year.

Great review, with terrific pics...

I have owned mine for years and this is one of the rare watches I'll never sell... for it's the best diving watch ever designed, and the one I love to dive with...

Thanks Patrick. I think the logic of originally using the Rose, is that it featured on their original Tudor Submariner models, from which the BB takes its design clues. I reckon they changed to the now more widely used Shield logo because it demonstrates the more modern face of Tudor, in line with the use of an in-house movement.

The Pelagos takes its design clues from Submariner models that used the Shield and snowflake hands and the Rose would have looked out of place, as the Pelagos is not part of the Heritage range. The launch of a blue Pelagos also references the past, rather than the fashion for blue dial watches.

Good article here. Having read it again, I will blame you if I now spend too much time trying to find a great condition vintage model! :)

Thank you Nicolas.

It’s also one I will never sell. I am pleased to hear it is up to the task for its intended purpose. Mind you I am sure that a Z-Blue would be fit for purpose during my forays into a pool or for a quick dip in the sea! :)
