The comment about Tribus having their cases made in the same factory as IWC has been mentioned before and I may even have repeated it myself.

However there is an article on the IWC website about their in house case manufacturing facilities and I doubt very much whether IWC make cases for Tribus.

The trouble with reviews is that you never really know what's behind them. Has the negative reviewer got an axe to grind? Is the positive reviewer a mate or employee? It's only when there is a solid body of work that they can truly be evaluated.
As with so many things, it's a case of using some common sense and making a decision. There does seem to be something odd about the company, but it's hard to see that TRIBUS watches can be a bad buy at the current price although I'm not personally tempted.

I struggle too see what horror stories there can be about straps and bracelets, that fit adequately and appear to be made well.
There’s a customer review about the bracelets somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it.
I’d rather order myself and then make my own mind up based on wether I personally like them or not. 1 review or opinion doesn’t mean it’s going to be bad for everyone. Being a big CW fan means I want these to be brilliant for Chris and the boys new venture 👍🏻
That's exactly what I did Simon - to say I was hugely disappointed is a major understatement :(
About 6 Christopher Wards, Omega, Tudor, Halios, Breitling, Bremont, Rado, Heuer, Oris, Nomos, Seiko etc.

@Molan
Can you just clarify that you were disappointed with the 303 squadron watch?

That watch seemed such a niche product, so did it have a personal connection for you? What did you find disappointing about the 303 watch? Have you reviewed it here or elsewhere?

That’s a shame to see that Molan. What in particular was the issue? I’ve not handled any Tribus as yet so unable to speak from any authority whatsoever but I’m sure that if it was a QC issue, they would have offered to sort it straight away if the chance was offered to them so I can only assume it simply didn’t meet your expectations? Or was it indeed a QC issue and there was nothing they were prepared to do?

I love both brands CW and Tribus, personally I like that they are doing different things in their respective ranges. Next year will be a interesting year for both brands as the review the pervious 12 months and the impact of COVID-19.

I've shared the comment about Tribus having their cases made in the same factory alongside IWC, so I thought I should identify my source which was Christopher Ward himself. He proudly made that declaration in some interviews about Tribus when the company was first launching. I also read it in print in at least one online article introducing the Tribus brand which could have been from the same source.

I seem to recall something along those lines with these claims coming from reliable sources and not being just internet speculation. It certainly seems to be a bold claim to make if not true.

Here’s another article about the opening of the IWC manufacturing facility. While I can’t see a date anywhere to say when it was first published, it does say the factory was opened at the time IWC celebrated their 150th anniversary. This would therefore have been opened sometime around 2018 and before Tribus came into being.

I have a few Tribus watches and I really enjoy them. I ordered 5 in this sale as it was 70% off. Personally I love the case and size, to me and, I own a few of these I'd recommend them. The Tribus Watch Enthusiasts is one of my many groups and I've not seen any problems with the watches come through and those that have bought them love them.

It could be that the factory used to make them for IWC or that IWC makes one or two watches with cases from there perhaps? Would be easy to see how that could be confused and spread to what we’ve heard.

Or it could just have been wrong- I will say that from what I have seen of Tribus cases on YouTube, I’d be a bit gutted if a £5-10k IWC had that for a case!

The statement by CW could be completely truthful, yet it doesn't proclaim that their cases are identical or even of the same quality. A manufacturing facility can be used to produce parts for multiple companies which may exhibit varying levels of quality and finishing. While the claim that they come from the same factory is impressive given their price differential, I don't interpret it to mean that they're necessarily of an equivalent quality level.

Yeah that’s a good/fair point. Me and my siblings all came from the same home but I’m much better than them 😄

^^^^ I’ve literally just noticed from @watchjunky’s photos that none of the Tribus watches has a date complication…. 👍
