Omega micro adjustment clasp for Early SMP Upgrade

Post by MiniMpi »

I recently got an incredibly nice gift of an Omega micro adjustment clasp upgrade for my very early Omega SMP 300m.
I love the watch but on occasion especially during the summer months or cozy winter evenings in, it does get quite uncomfortable as there is no adjustment on the standard clasp.

How we have gotten so used to a micro adjustment clasp on CW bracelets throughout the recent years eh ?! ;)

The very early SMP bracelet has pins and the upgrade clasp has screws but it is a very simple and easy to do upgrade bar of course the price.
You assemble the new end links to the new clasp and then remove the pins from one side of the old end links and also the collars on both sides. You put in the new pin and put a screw in each side. Job done.

It is slightly taller height wise but very similar otherwise.

It has made a huge difference to the wearability of the watch now, I love it !!

For this specific application, you need the upgrade clasp, two new end links, 4 pins for use in between the screws and 8 screws.

This is for this 1503-825 bracelet.

The part numbers are as follows :

117STZ00154 Clasp

118ST1515 x 2 End Links

128ST0166 x 4 Pins

124ST3307 x 8 Screws

Good job Fergs: I've been putting links back in hither and thither whilst we've had summer weather.

I assume we are talking reassuringly expensive prices. At some point I expect buyers will no longer be happy to pay excessively to get what other brands provide as standard.

Modern Seamaster SMPs come with a micro-adjust clasp. This came in for the 2018 Ref210 series. I had my 2012 - 2018 Seamaster SMP modified in the same way. On the original clasp I could never get it to fit so after a year I bit the bullet and bought the clasp and the boutique fitted it for me. It makes a big difference. Now we just need Omega to do a quick release for the bracelet and they will have caught up to CW

Just a few years back, they were very reasonably priced at around the £80 mark from boutiques. Then Omega cottoned on to the amount of people ordering them as retro-fits.
They are now circa £300 to purchase ...

That’s interesting, I believe it’s the same bracelet as this one, I’ve had a look on Omega’s website but can’t locate them, any ideas or is it just a case of calling an AD?

About par for Omega. This Omega example shows why the CW cordovan straps were such stunning value at £135, including the clasp.

2 piece leather strap with bader type clasp - £520, £260 for the clasp and £260 for the leather - see screenshot
The same in alligator £630, £370 for the leather.

Great work Ferg, and thanks for posting this! Time for me to do some research for my speedmaster bracelet. I barely ever wear it because of the lack of micro adjust. Not to mention the lack of quick release pins makes it a pain to fit!

Ooh I can add an update to this thread.

I bought one of these clasps https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145616033525 ... edia=COPY in December 2024 from this vendor in Italy https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/originalstra ... media=COPY

He and I had exchanged messages through EBay - I wanted to be as sure as I could and understandably he didn't want a load of grief with returns through Customs borders etc. He was adamant that Omega's product details implied that it wouldn't fit my Seamaster Professional "Regatta" ref 212.30.44.50.01.002.

The price by the way was £315 and it was a very simple swap-out job to fit it.

"indeed thanks to people like you that we come to know unusual things.
i am an official omega dealer and therefore i stick to what omega support suggests."

"finally, in my opinion the 117ST001159 could fit your bracelet but I'm not sure. I noticed that the bracelet 020ST1617751 has the clasp connection link that is the 118ST1515, and it is the same link that would fit the deployante 117st001159. a test would need to be done before giving you confirmation."

And then my final reply:
"Easy 30 minute job - needing to remove one cap screw at each end of the bracelet, let the pin out, change the clasp, test fit, remove a half link (to give optimal sizing for me) from the bracelet and tighten the cap screws down. Thank you so much for excellent customer service throughout."

If I needed anything Omega-braceletty I'd go to him again.
