Timefactors Smiths Blackshadow (speedometer watch)

Post by 7ee »

Been following this for what seems like an age, but just seen the early pics.

This is another cracker from Eddie IMO, love almost everything about it(less keen on the motorcycle back not being a motorcyclist myself, and always wish he'd use England instead of Great Britain which in the history of Smiths were the inferior Welsh made watches).

Really like the contrast of the PVD and Steel, also loving the yellow seconds. So pleased also that he went for a matching black day/date, white would have completely ruined it but this is just fine for me. My early wishes were for this to be a single handed watch, but I actually think this is for the best and will certainly be going on my future purchases list.

Anyone else here a fan of this one?

Looks very good and a damn site better than the design car crash marine watch that was recently released. Main negative for me though is the day/date which I think spoil the dial. Looking on the TZUK website the engraved back looks particularly nice regardless of if you like bikes just a pity it doesn't line up properly. Glad there is no Sheffield or the like on the dial I think that ruined the last one.

What is the movement, size of the watch and price?

Yep. I'm a fan. I think it's one of the best TF watches I've seen, and a strong candidate for membership of my new "affordable" (I hope) collection. :D

There are some excellent ingredients and it is a pleasure to see how the 'Smiths' brand is being brought bang up to date but I would struggle with the steel bezel/PVD case/steel crown combination.

Looks good but, like jmarchitect, I'm not sure about the contrast between the polished s/s bezel and PVD case.

There was talk of an ETA 2830, no idea if that is what it ended up with though.

As for the back not lining up properly, do you mean in rotation? If so that's the same with most watches regardless price, it's just down to luck.

I'm waiting for price announcement, my prediction would be somewhere around the £400 mark.

Size is 40mm I think going from memory.

My wife is wanting to give me this as my late birthday pressie, just hope it isn't too expensive or late arriving(late pressies sometimes end not materialising  ).

Interesting. It's the combination of PVD case and polished bezel that really evokes the memory of old instruments for me - and thus, that's a major attraction. :D

Yep, I think that's a major part of the inspiration and design, very fitting and gives it something unique.

Quite nice and could be in my price range, but probably not likeable enough for me to purchase.
