You're welcome Blowfish. We get too hung up giving watches labels like beater, tool, dress. Get rid of that idea. It's a watch. If you like it, it'll be a watch for all occasions and if it's an aesthetically pleasing watch of obvious quality it'll never look out of place in any environment. The Stowa is a cracker. The other watch that has been a bit of a favourite on here and which can be bought for much less on the used market is the bicompax Hammy jazzmaster chrono.

For a Flieger, have you considered the Archimede Pilot Chrono - 42mm. It is a superb example and not too pricey.

Cheers,
Jack.

Yes I have, and it fails on all counts - YMMV. It is expensive, at 1.5 times the price of the Steinhart with a similar look but I actually preferred the look of the Steinhart with the 9 and the 6 worked in the subdials and the blue lume. The only good thing about the Archimede is that the date window is at 6 inside the subdial, a position I like for date windows.

Said perfectly. Agreed

On used vs new, most of these watches I discussed are not frequently sold and re-sold. I always prefer to buy new since the watches I buy are not too expensive and I generally intend to keep them long-term and develop an attachment with them gradually, thus prefer to get them in perfect condition. I tried to track used Sinn 103 acrylic's for the last two months - never even saw one on watchrecon. Further, for the Steinhart specifically, I'm not concerned about taking a hit if I sell it later - I have seen 3 yr old ones selling here for very good prices. However, this makes me wonder if everyone who bought the Steinhart Nav B Chrono II sold it, probably due to size, or to upgrade to a grail watch, for example - and I tend to agree even I might do the same if I get the Steinhart. I do not want to buy a watch if I'm sure that I'll end up selling it.

I like the steinhart too, Blowfish, especially the look with the blue lume, but the Archimede trumps it for me at 42mm and with a nicely brushed case that is a tad slimmer than the polished Steiny. Both very nice examples though. I'm a big fan of pilot chrono's.

Cheers,
Jack.

I picked up this Longines for under £600 and has the 7750 movement. Great solid piece with awesome case back.

I have a Nav B chrono on today.

Although my favourite watch is actually another chrono.

Revue Thommen Airspeed. I just love it. This one is much more wearable than my Steinhart. Comes in various sizes and variations. You should be able to get an Airspeed for your budget. Lovely high quality and just a bit different.

Those who have/had the Steinhart Nav B Chrono II - do you prefer wearing it with bracelet or strap ? My wrists are not very small, they are about 7.25" and I like big watches so the Steinhart will probably be fine sizewise, I'm thinking about the thickness and weight. I generally prefer to wear my watches on the bracelet (or atleast buy on the bracelet and then change straps later). The Steinhart website states 134g on the strap and 236g on the bracelet for the Nav B Chrono II. Also is the stock strap black or brown - it looks black but the description says brown.

I purchased my Nav-B chrono with both the bracelet and the strap. At the time, my wrists were about 8". Personally, I preferred the watch on the strap, as it was a bit heavy on the bracelet. And the fact you say it is 236g kind of confirms it. That is a bit of a lump! Additionally, over time, I have come to prefer bracelets that taper from lug to clasp, but the Steinhart was 22x22.

Having said all of that, the Steinhart bracelet is spectacular value at €65.

I preferred mine with the bracelet but as Richard states above, it's heavy as a bugger.

I am a die hard bracelet guy like Downer, however I wore my Nav B Chrono 90% of the time on a Steinhart Black Strap. Really helps the dial pop IMO.

I measured my wrist just now. It was exactly 7" - seems that it has been a while since my last measurement, or I did it too loose. I am leaning towards the Sinn 103 which is a better choice for me long-term.

I generally prefer straps and I have mine on the stock strap. It is brown but very dark brown.
