Thinking about a speedy....
Re: Thinking about a speedy....
Quick update, tried on the pro today and it wears incredibly small for a 42mm - it appeared dwarfed by my c60!
As for the watch itself, loved it! Need to think about which of my current collection will have to move on to accommodate it...

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
Always thought it just wears 42 to me. Not big not small. Just it's size but I do prefer a smaller watch in general. Most of this month I've been thinking it might be too big for me so am wearing today because of that and your post.ricardo75 wrote:Quick update, tried on the pro today and it wears incredibly small for a 42mm - it appeared dwarfed by my c60!

To add, after several hours of wear, it doesn't wear too big because of the short lug to lug length, perhaps why the C60 makes it appear noticeably smaller.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

I'm sure "Hodor" is man enough to wear it!

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
For me, and on my wrist, the speedy wears a fair bit smaller than my C60 Pro 600.
The lug to lug measurement on the C60, and its greater width to the crown make it so I think.
Not that I think the speedy wears particularly small or anything, but the C60 has more heft and presence.

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
Well the speedy is quite a bit thinner.... which helps.

To my mind the Speedy definitely wears smaller than the C60

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
The C60 is "way" thinner than the Speedy! The previous model C60 was 12.6mm thick, the new ones are around 13mm I guess, and the Speedy is 14.3mm. Both of them 'look' thinner than they are - Speedy because of crystal and caseback shape, and C60 because of separate bezel. The Speedy is equally thick as most Valjoux chronos but the case shape makes it wear well. Contrast against something like the Stowa 1938 where all the thickness is on the side flat, so it looks really thick. Btw, the Stowa 1938's handwound version comes in at 13.7 mm - thinner than the Speedy. The only kickass chronograph I know of which is very thin and still relatively affordable is the Zenith El Primero.gaf1958 wrote:Well the speedy is quite a bit thinner.... which helps.

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
I just checked and you're right, and I think it's a case of perception beating reality here. My C60 is 12.8mm on my digital calipers, but has a much larger side profile than the moon watch. The Speedy moon watch is 14.04mm including the domed plexi crystal, but the measurement to the top of the bezel is only 11mm which is probably why I thought it was so much thinner than it is. The side profile is much thinner, as there's 4mm of domed crystal on top...blowfish89 wrote:The C60 is "way" thinner than the Speedy! BTW the moonwatch uses the 861 or 1861 movements which are a Lemania 1873 derived movements and are thinner than the good old Valjoux ones. The speedy Racing models use the Valjoux derived movements and are something like 15mm thick.
Regardless of that, trying them both on just now, the speedy looks slightly smaller and wears smaller/better on my wrist than the C60 (old model). It may actually be thicker with the domed crystal, but it belies that fact in the way it wears... I just need to check the facts before posting

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
All this reinforces the need to try on watches, rather than simply relying on the stated dimensions. IMO, the Speedy wears very well in comparison with many other 42mm watches - shorter lugs and a lower profile case definitely help.

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
I agree, definitely try one on if you're concerned about the size. I tried one and the size seems right for the design. Some watches this size look big - this one just looks right. I can see why they discontinued the smaller size.

Another question, anyone own one with the leather strap rather than the ubiquitous bracelet? I'm leaning that way but with small wrists am concerned that the deployant might not sit right, the shop I tried it on at didn't have this option.

Re: Thinking about a speedy....
A £3k watch popular or common???? I sometimes wonder what planet some people are on, or maybe they simply mix in different circles to the rest of us (perhaps on a different planet, maybe their own).
The speedy is a gorgeous watch, expensive and rare as hens teeth if one considers the watch wearing population as a whole. I want one and hopefully will have one one day. If anyone says to me it's a common watch I will simply consider why I am talking to them in the first place, and escape sharpish.

I alternate mine between the bracelet and the alligator strap. The strap is very comfortable and the deployant is a great fit on my 7" wrist.ricardo75 wrote:Another question, anyone own one with the leather strap rather than the ubiquitous bracelet? However, I would advise you to try to find one on a strap before buying - if at all possible. Alternatively, you could buy on a bracelet and source an after-market strap. Buying a bracelet later on will be an eye-watering experience.
