Are you ever tempted by Explorer 1, Oyster Perpetuals or Datejusts in the same genre?

Somewhat. I like the Explorer and the blue DJ with flat bezel, but I've never been sufficiently tempted to seriously consider buying one. So far.

Would certainly put your recent transition to smaller watches to the test, i think the 36mm Rolexes have a lovely balance though. And their blue sunburst dials are beautiful, maybe not as interesting as the ATs though

I keep getting closer to selling off several of my pieces and getting a vintage 34mm Air King / Precision (preferably blue). I can't get it out of my head.

The thing is, which do I sell? And is it worth it?!

I honestly think the Breguet Type XX can beat the Rolex Milgauss or the GO chronos in my aspirational list (though I haven't seen either of them in real life).

Yesterday I went to my local AD to aks whether they still have the Nomos Metro in stock. It turned out that they are currently refurbishing their shop, so it was closed, but they've got another shop that offers the more expensive brands. So I went there, met my favourite shop assistant and she showed me my grails.

So I tried on several Rolex watches and came to the conclusion that I am never going to buy a Rolex. I like pictures of the watches, I really wanted to get an Explorer, but as soon as they are on my wrist, every desire to own them evaporates .

The next watch I always wanted to see in the flesh was the Jaeger leCoultre Reverso double face. I love it, but again, not on my wrist. It is just too big and as my wrist is rather flat (flat as flat can be) the leather strap sits uncomfortably on my wrist. Well, it was not worn in, of course, but I think that a watch has to look good on your wrist immediately to make you want to spend your money - and we know that the JLC is quite pricey.

However... I fell in love with the JLC Master Ultra Thin:




On the other hand, this watch is very similar to the Nomos Orion series, but I just like the classic design... and subdials. At 38,5 mm it is quite big though. I have worn too many vintage watches lately and this is why I might not be used to wearing anything bigger than 36mm at the moment .

So the lesson I learned yesterday is: you can only find out what your grail watch is if you have seen it at least once in the flesh and on your wrist. Looking at pictures is not enough and though I still like the designs of my (former) grail watches - are you allowed to have more than one? - I might never buy one of them.

And back to reality:

My view is that despite this being extortionately expensive it is probably the best all-round sports watch that money can buy right now. But money you do need.

I have a deep rooted and (probably) irrational fear of unavailability of parts in the future for any watch I might buy. This fear is especially strong with Seiko as they don't keep parts for as long as many Swiss companies.
