Been after one of these for a while. Thought I'd have to get an eBay wreck and restore it but this one is done already. New bezel, crystal, service all done by Spencer.

The service probably cost almost what he wants for it.

Thoughts?

I was going to buy it tomorrow but the great white sold on eBay today so I guess I'll save my pennies for something from that local vintage shop.

Just think of the price! I tried it on again yesterday, only Rolex (on the wrist) that does it for me! But way, way too expensive.

The money isn't too bad when you look at what you get in that case.

Also the only Rolex that I would own.

Mate of mine had one. Too much writing on the dial, and stupidly big, like a clown watch. He flipped it for a rose gold JLC reverso.

Blimey, that is from one extreme to another!

As for the size, I suppose it depends on what you are used to. It is considerably smaller than the PO or Supermarine (although still rather hefty) and I have never really minded the writing.

I am still sorely tempted by the blue dial though. (Wifey is decidedly cool on the idea of owning both however. )

There was a good selection of Pateks on show in Rome. Just looked at through the window, also one JLC which i thought looked beautiful (by the way I did see Roman things and museums in Rome as well...):

Patek 5164A, if I had the budget I would have the aquanaut over a nautilus
