An easy guide to remember , is that any quartz watch that boasts a plus or minus rate of 10 seconds per year , can be deemed to be HAQ . While this field is still dominated by our friends in Japan , a few Swiss brands have tossed their hat into the ring , and are trying to figure out the next stage of precision timekeeping . For the sake of the article , it will be defining HAQ as one that has an inherent regulator rather than something that relies on an external force , like an atomic clock or GPS to maintain accuracy .

Re: The Ultimate High Accuracy Quartz Watch Guide
An independently adjustable hour hand is also a very important feature on a HAQ watch. Otherwise there's no point in 5 seconds per year accuracy if you have to reset the time whenever you change time zones or for daylight saving.
The Seiko 9F is lacking in that regard, and also misses out on perpetual calander.
Here's my 'The Citizen', king of HAQ:

The 9f's serious flaw is its three year battery and those years go quick. The quality of the case finish is so high you can't just get any old Harry to change the battery.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

I'm waiting for mine to start the 4-step any day now.Dancematt wrote:The 9f's serious flaw is its three year battery and those years go quick. The quality of the case finish is so high you can't just get any old Harry to change the battery.
It's picked up numerous marks during ownership, so I'm not *too* concerned about the finish. If anything, it allows me to enjoy it more as I don't constantly worry about it.
I'll probably change the battery myself when the time comes. It doesn't get dipped in water, so I'll just be very careful with re-seating the seals.
Even though they normally get replaced during battery changes, I'd be very surprised if they actually needed replacing after 3-3.5 yrs given modern materials.

The Citizen Chronomaster is fantastic .

In my experience of Bulova 262kHz watches, they do way better than that, more like HAQ. But if that's what the Bulova spec says......These technically don’t meet our guideline of 10 seconds per year, rather they offer a rate of 5 seconds per month, but they’re worth mentioning due to the sheer amount of models available and the accessible price point.
