Re: The problems with R in 10 minutes
Not my preferred presentation style, a bit well, Mad, but some good points are made.
Personally I have no interest in the brand for any number of reasons, but it is a shame for enthusiasts that like what they do/have done get caught up in the Flex Culture/Hype Train/Flip for Profit that is now associated with it. And no real way of avoiding it.
The good news is there are plenty of options for excellent and interesting watches that don't have a coronet on the dial and also have fantastic historical values.

There's a brand for everyone.
I can't imagine a car enthusiast being taken seriously after making a video explaining why they'll never buy another Porsche.
The games are a bit annoying to put it mildly but allocation is going to get easier as the brown stuff continues to hit the fan.

There’s nothing there that we haven’t heard (and in some cases said) before. The only slightly novel thing is the deranged delivery. You didn’t miss much.

Does that include the time taken to tell everyone?

I am struggling to comprehend how he has acquired almost 38k subscribers.
Now here is a thought…
If many amateur hour YouTubers didn’t spout their brand of nonsense there would likely be less hype. After all many folk aren’t interested in buying stuff that anyone can get hold of.
Neil
PS: There are still people that wear R simply because they like them, they are reliable, well made, robust and accurate and who would be as unlikely to turn up at a restaurant to “flex” with the watch visible on the back of their hand, as they would to go shopping naked in Waitrose.

Re: The problems with R in 10 minutes
A point well-made, Neil.
I wonder if there is some 'hits matrix' that is worthwhile for 'tubers dropping Rolex into a title? Less of this noise and the space would be better off.
The irony is that easily 90% of Rolex buyers will never have seen a 'tube video about the brand.

Re: The problems with R in 10 minutes
I don't own a Rolex, and doubt that I ever will so I don't really have a horse in this race. I am however old enough to remember walking past a Rolex AD several times a day in the 70's and 80's when they not only had actual watches to sell (I assume) but didn't even have the watches in their main window.
Where have all the potential new customers come from? It seems invidious to complain about the hype around a brand while ignoring that the individuals desire for a product has been fueled- to some extent - by that hype. I wonder how many people who complain about the lack of availability would actually buy one if Rolex were as hard to buy as, say (insert your own comparable quality brand) and a second-hand Rolex was worth less than the RRP of a new one?
Yes, Rolex make fine watches, but so do other companies.

Annoying video, I lasted about a minute.
I’ll stick with the many great brands out there which you can actually buy when you want to, without having to buy your way onto a list or pay a premium.

Re: The problems with R in 10 minutes
I bought a Rolex in the late nineties. Dad helped me pick out my first. It was and eighties watch over 12 years old at the time, and all 3 Rolexes I’ve bought were preowned - two were gifts. I’ve not bought one in nearly 25 years. They are nice, some quite nice, but not the value I prefer. I enjoy my CW far more and worry about them less.
