Re: The Bargain Hunters Thread
If you're in the market for an integrated bracelet mechanical watch the Citizen Tsuyosa Small Seconds knocks all competition out of the park (besides the CW Twelve, obviously) and can be purchased at an absolute bargain on Amazon.

As suggested, the discussion of air fryers etc. belongs in a different topic. This one is for watches.

The watch looks like a real bargain. Does anyone know if there is any problem with VAT and import taxes buying abroad through Amazon?watch-head wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 10:41 am If you're in the market for an integrated bracelet mechanical watch the Citizen Tsuyosa Small Seconds knocks all competition out of the park (besides the CW Twelve, obviously) and can be purchased at an absolute bargain on Amazon.

Re: The Bargain Hunters Thread
The ad has a visible warning about "Import Fees Deposit included" and the drop-down says this "We will collect the Import Fees Deposit at the time of your purchase and use it to cover applicable taxes and duties on import." so in light of this I'd assume you'll end up adding VAT and Import Duty before it reaches your door.Devon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:56 amThe watch looks like a real bargain. Surely the simplest thing would be to ask Amazon. For such a large company, they are surprisingly easy to speak with a human being.

Re: The Bargain Hunters Thread
I found the same watch on eBay, the information in the sales procedure suggests that duty is payable, so I will pass on trying to buy from abroad for now, as duties, returns and warranties can be problematic if things start to go wrong.

@Devon
If you are in the UK, it does say that the price quoted of £284.10 INCLUDES the fee to cover the estimated duties and taxes.
The price is £237.73 with £48.37 added on. This will cover what is needed. It is just the vat of 20% on the item and delivery. Duty is either zero on minimal (less than £1) on an item of this type. Sometimes an admin fee is charged by the carrier of around £5-10 but as this is coming via Amazon that will likely not be needed.
The price is the price you will pay.

Re: The Bargain Hunters Thread
Amazon, eBay, AliX all charge UK buyers VAT (20%) at checkout,so we don't get asked again, and we never have to deal with any import paperwork in the UK.tikkathree wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 12:30 pmThe ad has a visible warning about "Import Fees Deposit included" and the drop-down says this "We will collect the Import Fees Deposit at the time of your purchase and use it to cover applicable taxes and duties on import." so in light of this I'd assume you'll end up adding VAT and Import Duty before it reaches your door.Devon wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:56 amThe watch looks like a real bargain. If they didn't charge VAT it would kill trade in low value items as they would all be subject to VAT on import. However if it's not prepaid, then UK customs get the Royal Mail to collect the VAT, and they charge £8 per consignment, so you wouldn't buy eg, a £2 bezel insert if it cost 40p VAT plus £8 handling fee.
I don't think San Martin charge VAT, although it's on Ali X. I know when Jody/JOMW sold his watches they were all plus VAT to be charged by UK customs. So you paid Jody £300 for a watch, UK customs collect £60 plus £8 handling before Royal Mail delivery. Maybe a different carrier collected, but I expect there was a charge for collecting the VAT.
Note that Ireland (ROI) is outside the UK and also attracts VAT.

That solid gone one has been a grail of mine. Great price. Problem is I'd have to sell a fair few to pay for it, including a vintage 1680 Submariner which probably isn't the most sensible things to do.JAFO wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:48 pm Mentioned a month or two back, but TB Mitchell, of Perth, still have a number of heavily discounted Omegas, the dearest being a solid gold speedy at nearly 40% off.

Yes. Even if you say it fast, it's a lot to spend.Maraeburn wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 4:00 pmThat solid gone one has been a grail of mine. Great price. Re: The Bargain Hunters Thread
It is a lot yes - but three watch trade and done, just would it be worth it to give up a 1680 sub from '74 in great condition, a green SMP, and a Zenith El Primero... Not sure. What I do know is - someone still hasn't bought it yet, so annoying!

Re: The Bargain Hunters Thread
I see Watches of Switzerland has a reasonably extensive sale on at the moment online. Omega, Bremont, Tissot, Hamilton, Longines among plenty others.
I post a few watch pictures now and then to a little Instagram account - 5 followers and counting!
