TAG service

Post by jimbo »

A mate of mine has a TAG which he says needs a service and was told it would cost about £250 to include a new battery

Is this a normal price? I am sorry i don't know any more details of the watch at this time.

Also, does anyone know where he could get this watch serviced for cheaper? (He lives in the New Forest)

cheers Jimbo

I was quoted about £175 over 10 years ago, so that sounds about right as it will include a full seal change. That's why I no longer know or care where my TAG is in the house!

Search for tag service and you may find my previous thread on the very same subject :)

We ended up going to http://www.time-repairs.com/ who did a cracking job.

That said, anywhere should be able to change the battery for you, but at the time Tag were saying it needed loads of extra work, so we sent it somewhere slightly more specialist than the local shoe repairers. He (at Time Repairs) did a cracking job, and the watch came back good as new. Recommended. I believe we paid somewhere in the region of £55 for his services (which did include a new battery, as well as a "fix up")

Here you go... this is what I was quoted back then http://www.christopherwardforum.com/vie ... 85&start=0

I'd say £250 is quite high. Not sure what they'd do for a service to a quartz? I'd go elsewhere though tbh.

My friend had the battery changed on her Tag and the jeweller sent it to Tag and that was £49 which after a quick search looks standard for Tag. This time I did it for her as she was not bothered about water resistance and it only cost less than a £1 for a new battery and a few minutes of my time.

Breitling UK do publish their prices on line and £270 for a full service looks like the norm.

The price is probably about right for an official service, but how sure are they that it needs it? Is the watch old / has it lived a hard life? If not it might just need a battery, which most independents could easily do, and give it a quick once over, for about £50.

Don't suppose I could interest anyone in buying a cheap second hand TAG? Only needs a full service & battery change!

Just me that thinks £250 is too much then? I paid less to have a full service on a Rolex, at Rolex! :?

Depends how you view the question......

Is £250 about the going rate for an authorised TAG service - Yes
Is it good value at that price - No

I don't think it's right, but if they charge it & people still pay it, then it's clearly good business for them.

Just seen my mate, he had it changed by a guy in Lymington how charged him £10, and said that it all looked ok, and that a service would not be required for at least the next battery change in a couple of years.

The guy also pointed out to my mate that the watch would not be water proof before he took the back off, which my mate didn't mind as he does not wear it where it might get wet.

He was told a service would cost about £50. So is happy .....thanks for the replies
