Hans, was it the manual version that you bought? There's quite a price-premium for it isn't there, about £500 compared to £325 for the auto?

you could buy two of them for the same price as the Stowa auto. So I would suggest, as we yet can not purchase a hand wound from CW that the Marine Original Stowa is the best value.
I agree... I already have a 2824-2 equipped Aviator, so purely for the sake of variety, the manual Marine is a more attractive option, but for that cost difference. I don't know about it being the best "value" though, but maybe that just because I'm not too familiar with many movement types and so on. Does the price of the Marine manual compare well with other, comparably classy Unitas-equipped makes/models?

I think the Stowa is overpriced but it is overpriced because it is a popular brand amongst collectors.
Having browsed a few forums and review sites of late, I see what you mean. It is a fantastic looking watch though, so I may be tempted later in the year... maybe. :tree:

Two pictures of the Stowa. I bought the Marine Original from a member of a dutch watch-forum, he didn't wear it. The strap on the Stowa is not a Stowa-strap, but a Dornblueth-strap of exceptional quality. The color is a little bit to light for me, so eventually I'll put the original dark-brown strap on the Marine.

I've been waiting (im)patiently for Edox to release the 2008 version of their Les Vauberts Open Heart but despite promises that I would receive a catalogue in May and that the watch would be released in early June I've not heard or seen anything further.

So in the meantime I've just ordered a Marine Original, standard brown strap without the deployant (seen reviews suggesting it could be better). I imagine it'll arrive some time next month. Fingers crossed :)

Welcome to the "Asylum" sir. I fully agree with your substitution. The Stowa MO is a fine piece.

Many thanks for the welcomes. Once I've got the MO I shouldn't feel the need to wear my IWC Portuguese Chrono replica any more. I've always wanted a nice mechanical watch with seconds at six and I can't afford either the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5196P or the Simplicity by Philippe Dufour (my "ultimate" watch) so this will do for now.

Of course, staying true to the board, for those very special occasions I also have the C5 automatic that my wife gave me as a birthday present this year.
