And scooter - back order!! Shows as available on the website? Any idea when they are back in - my cunning plan to sneek another watch or two into the house while Mrs is away might fall apart!

You're OK. Because I was worrying about buying outside the UK I got in touch with Neil at Chronomaster (UK agents for Steinharts) and he's getting one for me. It's going to cost me extra, £290 for the watch from him plus the wait.

I can see however, through many posts on here in different threads that there is absolutely no problem dealing with Gunther at Steinharts.

Good luck and let me know what you think of it if you get one first.

One last opinion please.....
If you like the Cyclops I'd say the green is better (I must confess I must be one of the few people who doesn't mind the cyclops either way, but then I am also indifferent about Marmite - I save my polemic rants for stuff other people are indifferent about, it makes life more interesting!).

i love the green ocean 1... it may well be one of my next watches, and if bought, will possibly mean moving my C6 on, as it'll never get any wrist time lol.

id say out of the original 3 you posted... one is a good looking watch, the other two are not! Its steinhart all the way for me. It may be a homage, but it does stand on its own slight, by being a great deal larger than a submariner, by not copying the name with something that looks and sounds like rolex and by being a genuinely great bargain in the watch world.

I know it will never be a rolex, but heck, it doesnt cost as much.

to throw a spanner in the works... have you considered a second hand one of these:

even nicer in black perhaps and are selling for sub £500 on the second hand market. These are a huge step up from any of the others you've suggested, are probably closer to the longines / omega type build quality and likely to lose no more value as the years go on. The TT1 is also IMHO considerably better looking than ANY of the current crop of sub £1000 dive watches.

I think this word "homage" is bandied about far too much on watch forums, the steinhart in question should probably be referred to as a replica. This should not be taken in a derogatory way and i don't see replicas as a bad thing in general as they allow people without funds (including me were a sub my thing- not that its not good looking) to practically buy the watch of their dreams.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

I think of a replica to be as close to the original as possible.
Therefor you get fake products, fake Rolex, fake Omega, fake CW??

Bold cut and paste from the interwebs:
A replica is a copy that is relatively indistinguishable from the original. It can be a copy used for historical purposes, such as being placed in a museum.

However, replicas have often been used illegally for forgery, counterfeits, fakes especially of money and coins, but also commercial merchandise such as designer label clothing, luxury bags and accessories, and luxury watches. In arts or historic cars, the term "replica" is used for a non-original recreation, sometimes hiding its real identity.
This Steinhart and plenty others out there are homages, they don't pretend to be a Rolex sub.
Still not my cup of tea tho.

Thx for the recommendation shrink - very nice watch and I've been looking at the used examples out there today.

I'm currently juggling a £500ish budget and 'hope' to get two watches for it - with the Orange CWL C6 on ebay and the Steinhart Ocean 1 my current targets. Not expecting to get the ebay watch as I'm sure someone else will bid ignoring the 20% VAT to be added.

The Stewnhart military posted recently was another unexpected curve ball - sooooo many watches, not enough money and a wife to be circumnavigated.

I think you should email them and suggest it...see what response you get

Not wishing to get into the everlasting arguements about such things but,in the world of watches, replica is not a term most people like. Replicas are the pointless pieces of crap (ok..sometimes expensive crap) that appear so people with little brains can pretend to have a Rolex. Hommages take their design cues from other watches, but more importantly, don't pretend to be anything other than they are (ie a hommage) because they have their own name on it eg Alpha,Timefactors PRS20 etc etc

(no insults intended to previous posters by the previous rant)

its a TT1 in blue.. they do it in black as well (i slightly prefer the black)

retail is about £850 for a new one, and given the quality of the detailing and the casework... it makes an omega seamaster look very very expensive indeed. They are even better looking in the flesh, but be warned, they are chunky. 44mm and a very very big bracelet. you need to be comfortable wearing a watch like that.

Gotta love this site and the people on it.

Just when I am settling on a shortlist - it gets blown apart by your input

That's village's fortieth birthday present right there!

He will come along soon to post more pics and probably moan because he's so old.
It's a great watch. Also, it's on my list of top three watches that village owns that I really, really want and would kill him for. Except that he's really big and scary!
