Smiths Military 36mm PRS-29AM - initial thoughts and pics
Smiths Military 36mm PRS-29AM - initial thoughts and pics
Most of the watches that I regularly wear are approximately 40mm, screw in crown 100m WR, with lumed indices and hands, generally worn on a bracelet. Most being black dials. Not much else gets a look in for everyday and holiday wear.
However when I saw pics of the Smiths and read the specifications, I thought that it was sufficiently different to my usual fare and other than lack of lume, it would qualify for me, as a bit of an all rounder.
It is the first watch that I have ordered from Timefactors, but have always been intrigued by how popular they are on TZ-UK and thought it was time to give one a try.
Ordered on Tuesday and delivered by RMSD yesterday. Very well packaged and would be easy to see, if anyone had made an attempt to tamper with the package. No traditional box, after all who needs another bl**dy box to store! Instead the watch comes supplied in a decent quality two watch travel case, with cloth and credit card style warranty card. Another touch that I like about the presentation, is a leaflet with full specifications and on the reverse a glossary of commonly used watch terms.
I won’t list all the specifications, as they are included in one of the pics. However a 36mm case, with 47mm lug to lug, hi-dome sapphire crystal, 100m WR and 20,000 A/m anti-magnetic ticks many boxes for me.
The case is all brushed and with a good level of finish. The cream dial with black printed Arabic numerals and a rail minute track has been executed to a high standard, as have the heat blued hands. I have looked at the dial under a 10x LED loupe and cannot see any flaws. The logo and brand name are shown at 12. The manual wind ETA 2801-2 winds smoothly.
The supplied NATO is of a high quality. I have currently switched to a Nomos Cordovan strap that I think also suits the watch. My current selection of 18mm straps is rather limited, however I can see myself wearing the watch on a NATO, canvas/cordura, and non patterned leather, depending on whether dressed up or down.
I think that it is a rather neat good value watch, that I can see myself wearing, when not wearing one of my usual suspects.
Some pics to finish (although they are displaying in the reverse order to the one I intended, when I attached them!)

Excellent addition, Neil - and with that spec an absolute bargain to boot.

Neil,
This is my first Smiths and I really like it. I love the blued hands. I wondered about the 36mm size, but actually its wears the same as my Hamilton Khaki 38mm. As an aside, many of my fathers old Daimlers had Smiths dials, and being a Smith myself it would have been rude not to!

A nice clean, classic design and looks very good value.
Sometimes you don't need a 43mm with day, date, chrono, GMT, bezel, worldtimer, 1000m WR specification and it's nice to have something more calming on the wrist

Still a lot to be said for the classic designs, somehow I keep coming back to them a well.

Can't think if it's the diameter or England wrote on the dial?StrappedUp wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 10:38 am That's a lovely, classic piece gents. And very good vfm it would appear
