I don't think I've ever seen a Sinn in the flesh.

Looks like a proper tool watch. Drilled lugs too!

It can only enhance your collection.

"Nice watch" is my rather partial comment. :) I love mine. The regiment is just great. Not a scratch so far.
Enjoy it while you have it!

Very nice. Did Damasko figure in your thoughts before you went for the Sinn?

Thanks for all the comments. :)

The condition of the watch is (I think) testament to the quality of the regiment. For a two year old, it's very clean. There's a slight graze on the black part of the bezel and a small 'roughness' on the edge of one side. Nothing serious though, and considering the price I paid, the condition is more than acceptable.

As for the Damasko question, I've previously owned a DA37. The case finish is similar, but the Damasko has a slightly 'plastic' look about it - almost too perfect, if that makes sense. Additionally, I prefer the dial of the Sinn, as I found the numbers a little 'simple' on the DA37. Finally, I wanted to try a 2892 movement. Having said all that, there is no doubt that Damasko make fantastic watches.

Sinn 857

Post by paw3001 »

This post confused me when I saw it as the model you brought was a 657 in my eyes and not an 857!

However I have noticed that Sinn has changed their model numbering since I brought my Sinn 856 back in 2006!

Originally your new model was labelled as a 657! The 857 had a UTC hand and inner 24hr ring but that is now labelled as 857 UTC. Very confusing

However, as much as I like Sinn as a brand, I moved on my 856 (no timing bezel) as it was a little bland and small for how my tastes have developed over time.

Oh be careful as the tegiment steel can still scratch and mark but less so than normal 316L stainless steel.

The 657 was visually very similar, but smaller (41mm vs 43mm) and did not have some of the technology - the gas-filled case and dehumidifying capsule. It was also not tegimented, and fitted with a 2824, rather than a 2892..

Great pics as ever, Richard. I was looking at what is now your watch (assuming it's the same one) on the chronomaster website and wondering whether i would break my self imposed price ceiling. Obviously i didn't.

It's interesting to note the very limited marks you have highlighted. I was under the impression that the vickers rating of the casing prevented little knocks but i guess that's expecting the impossible. I was also interested in your comment about the texture and touch of the Damasko finishing, which to my eyes always looks slightly surgical/clinical instrument if that makes sense. Anyhow, it looks to be a great watch so enjoy and if you decide to flip it...

Nice watch! Obviously I had heard of Sinn before, but your watch made me have a look at their website ... it probably would have been better if I hadn't  Especially since I have a Lum-tec Combat B16 heading my way already.

Yes, I think - in the end - physics takes over, and something has to give.. The graze on the bezel is on the black part, which is made from aluminium. I am talking about two slight scratches, that are only visible under harsh, direct light at a specific angle. When I noticed that mark, I studied the AR coating, because normally, you could also expect some damage to that area (from the same incident). However, the AR seems to be intact - again looking under very harsh light.

As for the case itself, I have no idea who owned the watch, or how they treated it, but I have to say, it appears to have survived very well. I am sure I will not damage it...

Ian - have you considered the Damasko DA36 - 40mm and a solid alternative - http://www.damasko.de/en/da36

EDIT - Doh! I see you already had a DA37 - sorry
