Agreed; I think the no date just looks better and cleaner than the cyclops versions; and the older models don't look as clumpy as the more recent ones.

The 'Rolex Sub' question seems to be akin to asking 'which Porsche 911' should I buy considering the amount of models, durtaion of production, varying values and divided opinion.

I'm not particularly bais toward any look as long as its not gold, blue or bling so I think its going to come down to the right watch coming up for sale at the right time and for the best price.

However I really do need to establish what all this chat about old vs new bracelet is about and try one of each.

My birth year watch is even on Ebay at the moment:

...but then vintage subs are another thing all together I'm guessing.

That's an ambitious price for a scruffy 5513. Watchfinder have a much tidier one with a warranty for £4250, and they are not noted for being cheap!

Personally it would only be this one,

14060M no date

or if money was no object, i would happily have this

6538 Submariner

8)

I do not have a big longing for a Rolex, although a vintage Sea Dweller would be cool one day. Something a little different to the norm. Current Subs have been ruined by the recent weight gain around thelugs and bezel.

Each of us will face this question at least once in a year.

"Why do you have so many watches? You can only wear one at a time!"

I've long considered the Rolex Sub the Porsche 911 of the watch world. Before you try one, you presume they are too common and the owners must be rather silly, and the style old-fashioned; other options are so much flashier. But then you learn the history, and try them, and it all falls into place. (And pretty much all models - of both Sub and 911 - are awesome.)
