To be in this position, choosing between two excellent models. If it were me I'd go for an older model non date sub: still one of the all time great watches, let alone a great Rolex.

He's not really a watch fan although has a good taste in them. His daily wear is an older Bond Omega Seamaster which he has considered trading in towards the Rolex which I am trying to persuade him not to if he can afford to keep both. I don't think he can stretch to the more expensive SD.

It is entirely a matter of personal preference, of course. And my preference would be for the no-date Submariner. It is truly an icon.

Did we ever find out if it was a modern or vintage sub?

Modern is not as cool as the sea dweller.....

But they are both trumped by the vintage. Now that is a cool watch.

Vintage sub and old Seamaster is a pretty good collection in anyone's eyes!

Vintage sea dweller rules vintage sub. Best compromise is double red - sea-dweller and submariner ;)

I think he was considering a modern/new Rolex .. but, as you say, a vintage Submariner could compliment his older Seamaster nicely. Will point him in the direction of this thread. .thanks.
