Re: Rethinking the collection.
Reallly like that PRS-12 and at 38mm the perfect size IMO. Is it a special or limited edition watch by any chance?I googled the name and timefactors website came up...having a browse now
Edit: just found the PRS-12 on their website...I agree thats a keeper watch!!

[quote="atnits"]Following on, I've decided to reduce my collection to 1 diver, 1 chrono & 1 dress - then take it from there.
I do respect your decision, but I must wonder how long this will last.

This is catching - having similar thoughts about scaling back a few, but need to finish my minor refurb projects first...

Re: Rethinking the collection.
I will always be lusting for an omega. It's a dream watch for sure. If I had every penny I spent on watches so far, I'd have my omega.Aifo wrote:Must be the weather, been thinking exactly that while cleaning my watches just now. Thinking of reducing my 16 to three and put the fund towards the omega I am lusting after.

Indeed. We'll see. (Probably not long! )Kip wrote: I do respect your decision, but I must wonder how long this will last.
Re: Rethinking the collection.
I had a clear out that started around 18mths ago and ended around a year ago. I had too many similar looking watches and also watches that I really liked when I got them, but went off over a relatively short time. The two stand outs were a Bell&Ross Vintage 126 chrono XL in Black (it's actually not that large, it was 42mm) and a Breitling Superocean Steelfish with blue dial and blue calf strap. I sold them only a year or so after I aquired them and lost quite a bit of money to be honest, but cut my losses. I just went off them. With the Steelfish, I initially loved wearing it over the summer, but I just felt a bit too old for the style. It was a marvelous dive watch for the money. The B&R I just never got used to and actually wore my black C3 more or my black hamilton Kaki dual time .
I also gave away a Seiko Black Monster to my nephew as his first auto (he needs to build his arms up to wear it ) and one or two other cheaper end pieces.
Funny thing was, I started feeling a little silly holding so much cash in watches in these difficult times . I still have a reasonable collection of 8, but now I hold off from buying and I've found it's saved me a few mistakes because I tend to go off some pieces after a few months. My last buy was a quartz (I know ) - a Fossil Decker Chrono with black dial and black silicon strap. I saw a colleague in Germany wearing one and got a shock when I saw it was a Fossil. it is a really neat looking watch and very substantial both in looks and feel. I managed to get one with about 30% off (I think it was arounf £75) on Amazon. Anyone who don't mind the odd quartz, take a look!!
Cheers,
Jack.

Well, it's lasted about a month. And I've just ordered a strap in preparation for a new watch. In fact I've 2 watches I'm inching my way towards.
And the cycle starts again!

Re: Rethinking the collection.
Rethinking...God knows I've been doing just that, and it's been an interesting few days...
SOLD: C8, DBR1 and one of the cheap oldies...not without a LOT of thought!
I've basically come up with two sets of watches:
1. "The Rotation":
C5: initally WOW, then a period of uncertainty, and now it has found its place as a watch I want to wear regularly (I hesitate to use the term "beater" for any of these watches...I realise that I am very lucky to be able to wear them on a daily basis!)
Nomos Tangente: this is a watch I just want to wear all the time...beautiful and amazingly accurate - I just hate to leave it in the box!
Seiko Orange Monster and Orient Yellow Mako...weekends, holidays, "fun-watch" Fridays!
I have realised that I am a "wearer" of these modern watches, not a "collector"...which is why I couldn't have the C8 and DBR1 just sitting there!
2. "The Collection":
The "vintage" watches, high quality pieces for special occasions or just to make me feel good!
1991 Omega Seamaster Polaris
1960 Omega gold manual
1960's Enicar Ocean Pearl (not in the same league, but has the sentimental value of a gift)
The NEXT PURCHASE: I'm undecided at the moment, but it will be very good indeed!
I'm lucky to be able to do this, I know that, especially to wear watches of the quality of the Nomos, the C5 or the Omegas every day...but that's where it's at right now!

(This is what the forum is all about.....)
Just noticed this thread. The speedbird is lovely, not heard of them before. Love doing a bit of research & finding out new brands.
Can some give me a brief history? English watch sold by Time Factors..? Doesnt appear to many around?
(Sorry, Google not helping me thus far)
