Hey, I can't remember if you were considering the oyster perpetual or not. If you aren't then you should! Sales lady caught me ogling in the window and brought me in to try one on and it is awesome! 36mm no date, range of dials. The proportions are fantastic, just like the 36mm explorer apart from you get the great improved clasp and bracelet. I've tried a few Rolexes on now and this is the one that impressed me the most, I think probably because I wasn't expecting much, but try one on!

RRP is £3,600. I think iconicwatches will do it for about £3k

Model number for the Oyster Perpetual is 116000 if that helps David. If the 36mm size suits you, there's a couple of interesting dial choices available. Personally, only the silver dial appeals in that model, but the black/orange or the silver/blue are certainly striking.

There is an all blue one as well, and a black one, but the numbers and indices are light pink on the black one

Yes, saw the black and pink one, but thought it best not to even mention it!
I can't find the blue one in the 36mm version, but that would probably appeal to me as well. Just didn't like the concentric dial pattern of the silver/blue combo.

No i didn't think that would appeal to me at all, and i still don't think i would buy one as i am not ever going to be able to afford lots of watches of this quality but it would work in a collection as it really is a very interesting dial in the flesh.

Lots more interesting posts chaps, the OP no date is on the list. Just to complicate matters I rather like the look of the IWC Portofino, not seen it in the flesh though. I must admit the Explorer is still top of the list but my head is beginning to swim! Taking my time sounds like good advice.

A quick update. A trip to Westfield shopping centre yesterday enabled me to introduce the Rolex Explorer into the equation.I also showed her the Omega AT & TAG Carrera 5.

The buying signals were nowhere in sight, incredulity that I considered £4k for a watch abounded  Little appreciation of the difference between them, apart from the price tag of course :)

Discussions on VFM and future values met with "but you're not going to sell it are you" ( :o seen through). However, the seed has been sown, incredulity is better than violence  and I'm becoming an expert on the 4 C's of diamonds. After all, 25 years of marriage etc etc.

I think we are going to Dubai to the "honeymoon" :o not sure if buying the watch (assuming clearance given of course) over there is advisable. Any thoughts chaps? Slightly off topic but think as OP that's allowed
