Other Brands
I have noticed that there is a lot of interest in "other brands" on the CW-forum, the main topics are watches in approximately the same price-range as the CW-watches.
Would it be an idea to elaborate on this and make a kind of CW 'daughter-forum' about quality-watches in the 'affordable' price-range? That would add structure to the "Other Brands" subforum we have now!

Re: Other Brands
Good idea!!
From a personal point of view, since receiving my C3 for Xmas from my better half, I cant stop looking at any kind of watch, CWL or not, and where I would just look at a watch and decide whether I liked it or not....now Im looking at it and asking 'what movement does it have' ...what S/S is it made from 'deployment clasp'??? etc etc etc....
This was all a foreign language a few weeks ago!!
This forum has a lot to answer for!!!

Re: Other Brands
I like the idea Hans, not sure if we should mention any brands here but there does seem to be a lot of Omega interest amongst members here.
but a sub forum sounds like a very good idea to me.

Re: Other Brands
The watches I've been lusting after (and purchasing some of) are WAY out of the CWL price range
That being said, my T3 is on the way, my LE (thanks Hans!) is reserved, and I'm keeping a watch (no pun intended) on what CW is currently working on.

Re: Other Brands
Hans, this is a great idea. A place to discuss watches, say, under 1K. You could call it something crazy like, oh, The Poor Man's Watch Forum!
Honestly, right now, there are watch styles yet to be offered by CW, and the discussion keeps things interesting and helps forum traffic. I like seeing all the different things people dig up on the net, and get to keep learning about watches. Whether they be under or over 1K.
if you feel the talk is a distraction from CW discussion then maybe it's better. I dunno. I do like the openness of the forum and how discussion on anything watches is welcome. The recent TZ.UK fiasco being an example.
My 2¢

Re: Other Brands
You are right, there are already forums that discuss sub- $1000 watches, and I don't have a problem with the fact that non-CW watches are discussed. I'll think about it some more, maybe it is best to leave things as they are...
Re: Other Brands
Hi Hans,
For what it's worth I think your idea for a CW daughter forum is sound. I've got some premium brand watches (along with my 2 CW's), but I'm now facinated by the market in the CW price bracket. It almost represents a challenge for the collector, to attain something high quality at the minimum price. I hadn't noticed many of these brands (including CWL) before. A daugher forum may even help Chris to keep an eye on what could be direct challenges, or help to generate ideas; some of these other brands have some interesting designs.

But it is a pitty you can't discuss about your new Omega or Breitling anymore.
The're all over 1K.
CW-fans are not Patek-fans so I don't think we need a restriction in price.
Owners of Pateks and other very expensive watches will not be visiting the CW-forom anyway.
If they do they are welcome, but I don't think they are very interrested in CW's.
So an other brands section is OK by me, but not untill 1K.

Re: Other Brands
I'm interested in Pateks, Breitlings, Omegas, Breguets and loads of other brands. Just because so far I've only spent my money on cheaper brands doesn't mean I'm mentally restricted to admiring cheaper brands' watches.
Edit: BTW I was a member of a forum dedicated to a very pricey, famous brand. The members would never turn their noses up at a Seiko, even if it wasn't a Grand Seiko.

Re: Other Brands
I think the other brands section of this forum works fine as it is, I enjoy looking and appreciating upmarket brands (such as the Gruebel Forsey watches I posted about last week) even though I will never have the means to own them. But I also like looking at CW price range brands and seeing what the manufacturers can squeeze into a watch for reasonable prices. I can then drive myself crazy trying to restrain from buying them instead of food (C1 for example!!). So I dont see why there needs to be a limit on what we can talk about.
Also Hans, dont you have your hands full already running this forum and liasing with CW to sort out our lovely LE etc!!

So many watches, so little time (and money!!!).
Re: Other Brands
Can we not add a diswasher forum also. There are some quality reasonably priced ones around, I have devised some racking for several makes and models to hang your watches from if anyones interested?
