Re: Oris Depth Gauge - Should I Keep or Return It?
Wow! I couldn't live with that lug. Was it supposed to be new, i.e. display model or something, or was it sold as used? Either way, I'd be rejecting it straight away, especially as they didn't mention it. I mean, how do you actually flatten the lug like that? What else haven't they mentioned? And how come the warranty card takes another 14 days? Why isn't it with the watch?
Too many questions for me

Thanks guys, 99% sure it'll be returned, but will wait to see what my contact has to say. It'sAliveJim wrote:Wow! I couldn't live with that lug. Watch was sold as new, no mention of ex display or used. No idea on the lug, I'm assuming a repair done by a numpty.
Just like Jura they send the warranty card after the cooling off period, but I would be suspicious on this now that it's obvious that it's a used watch and wouldn't be surprised of a mix up and it was stamped/dated months ago or has been lost...
I'm happy to name the company, but I'll wait until all is resolved first!
Current collection incl Citizen, G-Shock, Rolex, Seiko, Sinn & Tag.

If the case has been knocked hard enough to flatten the lug to that extent I would be concerned about possible damage to the movement.
Only you can decide if you are happy with the deal if your not. Return and walk away. There is always another watch.

I'd send it back. No amount of discount would make me keep it with such an obviously damaged case.

Re: Oris Depth Gauge - Should I Keep or Return It?
The rep has emailed me this evening and apologised that the info given to him about the watch is obviously incorrect and he will call me and arrange collection.
Regarding the lug, it appears to have been repaired with a bench grinder or similar. I don't know what it looked like prior to this, but I'm guessing someone has tried to polish something out and made a mess of it.
So it's going back and the funds will go on the Hammerhead at some point in the next few weeks, which was also secured at a good price.

This is what the lug looks like close-up, but it actually looks worse from a distance.

Just caught up on this thread and taking a further look at the lug's damage along with it having been sold to you as 'new'. . .Bahnstormer_vRS wrote:If the price you paid, factoring in the Alpina deal, fairly reflects the 'Nearly New' condition of the watch and you're happy with it; I'll advocate keeping it.
Would giving it the once over with some Cape Cod improve the condition at all?

... . . send it back (which you have arranged to do).

Re: Oris Depth Gauge - Should I Keep or Return It?
Received a phone call this morning from the sales person who was very apologetic and blaming the warehouse team for not noticing the problems.
Anyway watch has already been collected and hopefully a refund will follow shortly.

Re: Oris Depth Gauge - Should I Keep or Return It?
I would've always had a sense of doubt about the watch had I kept it - if I'd sold it on I suspect it probably had some money in it, but also potential headaches if it went wrong. It's a shame that it's gone back, but it's someone else's problem now.
Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up on ebay at some point.

You did the right thing sending it back. Out of interest what would full RRP for the watch have been, relative to the £1k you paid?

I believe it's rrp is £2300, so a big chunk of change and used on eBay they appear to go for £1000-£1600, but they are quite rare.

Re: Oris Depth Gauge - Should I Keep or Return It?
Update:
The sales rep contacted me Wednesday evening and arranged collection on the Thursday and they refunded me on Friday, which is now confirmed on my card.
I also received my Alpina guarantee card yesterday, so that was sent to me as promised.
Watch was purchased from The Watch Gallery - would I use them again? https://www.thewatchgallery.com/
Well the Alpina I purchased through them was perfect and I just think the Oris deal was just not meant to be. Either someone hadn't noticed the damage or perhaps it was simply marked as new when it should have been listed as used. So yes I would use them again, but I would fully inspect the watch on arrival. Watches come well packed in a large outer box (similar to Jura) with a bow around each watch box.
They apologised for the mishap and turned the refund around quickly, just a shame that the deal and the watch didn't happen.
